Fallout 76 - Gameplay Footage
October 9th, 2018, 05:50
PC Gamer took some gameplay footage of their Fallout 76 playthrough.
Two of us got to play Fallout 76 at an event held by Bethesda in West Virginia last week, and we've got the footage to prove it! Unfortunately it wasn't the PC version of the game, it was a build on Xbox One, but we still got a few hours of playtime with Bethesda's online Fallout game. It began with us creating a character, leaving Vault 76, and exploring The Forest, one of the six different regions of Fallout 76. You can see 30 minutes of captured footage from our session embedded above or here on YouTube.More information.

Fallout 76 brings along the quietness of its single-player predecessors, for better and worse.Fallout 76 Is A Very Different Type Of Post-Apocalyptic RPG
76 certainly isn't like other Fallout games. After our three hours, I got the impression that Bethesda is taking a risky approach with the series in regards to its lore and its core gameplay. With its heavy focus on survival gameplay and the online experience, I suspect that this largely experimental take on Fallout will become a rather polarizing entry. Though the mechanics were somewhat overwhelming to get a handle of, I can't deny that I enjoyed exploring the large map and engaging in the mysterious, post-apocalyptic take on West Virginia. Fallout 76 looks like it can flourish in the long-term, and I'm interested in what can come about after many hours in its off-kilter and ever-changing setting.Fallout 76 - forget what you know, this isn't a regular Fallout game
It’s about 30 minutes into my Fallout 76 session and I’m already in my pants. It’s what Bob would want.
Bob is my wastelander, fresh out the vault. With bedraggled, balding hair, mutton chops, a horribly scarred face and the body weight of a large child, Bob stands out. Even more so when he’s wearing discoloured pants, a party hat, and some cobbled-together chest armour made out of belt straps. The machete in his hand helps, too.
Meeting a surprising range of personalities has always been a part of Fallout’s charm – the quests often just a jumping off point to give players a glimpse into the lives of this cast of misfits, criminals, and survivors.
Fallout 76 – a new multiplayer take on the post-apocalyptic RPG – doesn’t have any of this, however. Instead, it wants the players to become the characters. And so, for a glorious three hours, I became Bob.
Some context: Bob is a knob.

I love Fallout, but I'll pass on this one…
As a "strangely lonely multiplayer game" it's not likely to satisfy anyone. As a solo gamer, it doesn't sound great if you need a group to take down a beast. For the MMO crowd, you might not enjoy wandering around for hours before encountering another human. They really need NPCs both as quest givers and party members.

In related news, 2 weeks to go.
Going by the September update he still had to finish a lot of tasks.
As for the mod itself I played the first part years ago.

Despite actually enjoying all the 3D Fallouts so far, and playing a surprising amount of MMOs, this doesn't interest me in the slightest. It doesn't have the gameplay, systems and what not for a proper online game, and the single player experience looks lacking to say the least.
I guess it might have an audience though. The GTA mutliplayer is also quite a different experience, and that's certainly successful, so it is possible to succeed outside the traditional recipes. I'll be passing though.

They actually posted over on Facebook a few hours ago; things seems to be proceeding well for the 10/23 release.
To bad his crowdfunded game was never launched.

This clip looks incredibly dull, even worse than I figured this game would be…

To be fair, Bethesda games are best when some bug/glitch throws everything out of whack, I once got killed by a fruit basket.
This could actually be interesting.

While it is not a game for myself - for those who like this sort of thing - as expected it will be loaded with microtransactions:

I guess to be fair and complete I should note that it appears that only cosmetic items can be purchased and they can be obtained without $$$ if you are patient.

Odd thing though…why not make it faction based MP? Would make sense for a Fallout game.
This kind of seems something not really committed in any direction.

Since I love exploration, loot, survival, and crafting I should be able to enjoy this even though it's not a crpg. I like survival games. Doesn't really seem like Fallout. I wish they would have divorced this experiment from the Fallout name.

Well, to me Fallout 3, NV, and 4 ARE Fallout. Those earlier games are just little niche games for some ancient whiners.
P.S. I loved Fallout, didn't care for Fallout 2 at all.
P.P.S. I sorta hope Fallout 76 bombs too, even though I plan on getting it. I want single player fallout to be one of the two successful Bethesda Softworks brands. They already take decades between games, so I don't want a third successful franchise to mess up the release schedule. I hope this dies and costs Zenimax millions. Does this make me chaotic?

pibbur who, although he has enjoyed FO3, FONV and FO4, will skip this one. Unless…. Nah, can't think of anything.
