Aside from some bugs, Sega's Shenmue 1 and 2 HD remaster was a good release but originally, plans were afoot for an altogether more ambitious project - and you can see it right here.

We are halfway through Path of Exile: Delve and so we wanted to give you an update on what to expect for the remaining weeks before we launch our next expansion!

Last week we deployed Patch 3.4.3e which contained a few bug fixes and some minor improvements to Delve. We are likely to have small bug fix patches in future but most of our intended significant changes to the league have now been deployed.

The development team is currently focusing on Content Update 3.5.0 which we expect to launch on the first week of December. This means we'll be announcing the full details of what to expect from this expansion three weeks prior, around November 9th. It's slightly larger in size than Bestiary, Incursion or Delve.

Set to release at some point in 2019, the sequel to Deck13’s sci-fi hack and slash The Surge has got the suckers for punishment at WellPlayed more than a little excited. Creative Director on The Surge 2 Jan Klose was good enough to take some time to discuss the upcoming sequel with us.

Recently we made the trek to West Virginia to play an early build of Fallout 76, the first game in the series - and for developer Bethesda Game Studios - to tackle multiplayer. Much of the tactical combat in Phoenix Point takes place within human controlled Havens. These will not be the only places where combat occurs. There will be scavenging sites, your own bases to defend and enemy bases to attack, where the Pandoravirus mutates and grows its reinforcements.

Finding and destroying these aliens lairs will be fundamental to your success in the game. One of the main design goals for these enemy bases was to give them an organic appearance.

This is a pretty exciting update. The Queen’s Wish: The Conqueror engine is pretty much done. The base interface is in. The system is done. All the stuff in the game is scripted.

Of course, it’s not completely done. The final interface needs to be drawn, put in, and made pretty. There are a lot of minor things (like weather) that I tend to do late in the process. There are a million bugs. However, we have a full, playable game, and we’ve made several towns, dungeons, and outdoors sections. To take a break from interface stuff, I’ve also written over 40000 words of dialogue for the spine of the storyline.

Over the next few days, we’re going to do our first intense playing. Now that the base engine is done, we’re going to play it, find what is broken and imbalanced, fix it, and make sure the game is fun. Then we will go on to primary world design, the longest phase in the project.

With the recent rumor regarding Obsidian Entertainment being acquired by Microsoft, speculation of a Fallout: New Vegas sequel has been rampant. Obsidian had previously mentioned that they weren't ready for Fallout: New Vegas to be their last game in the Fallout-verse, but it looks like it might just be.

Recently the japanese developer tri-Ace announced that the PC version of the upcoming role-playing game Resonance of Fate 4K/HD, will get high resolution textures released separately as free DLC. This has been done to reduce the game’s total size.

Fallout 76 has been under scrutiny from hardcore series fans for a while, and it isn’t just because of the online multiplayer focus or lack of NPCs. Instead, many long-time players have taken issue with how Bethesda has added the Brotherhood of Steel, specifically the East Coast chapter, to the game. Present information states that the creation of this chapter takes place more than 150 years after the setting of Fallout 76.

Technology and video game companies take NDAs and embargoes seriously. You don’t break them. Apparently, a player who participated in last Saturday’s stress test for Fallout 76 on the Xbox One either didn’t get the message or thought he could get away with it. He didn’t, and both Bethesda and Xbox dropped the hammer on him.

Role-playing games offer something that very few other games can, immersion and emotional investment, and the best ones make you care about the story, the characters and most importantly the world and lore.

Those are the games we are looking at today. The very best the role-playing genre has to offer in 2018.

Artificial intelligence (AI) is one of the most important features of any single player game. Getting it right is key to the experience: it has to be almost invisible, so players (sort of) forget that they are playing against a machine. It has to be clever and fast enough to be a worthy opponent, but not too much – humans are fallible, after all; and ultimately the player, as the hero of the story, is supposed to win. It has to make use of the game mechanics at hand, not just to be fun and varied but to show the player what can be done. This rings especially true in a game such as Mount & Blade II: Bannerlord, where skill-based combat and epic large-scale battles are at the core of the experience.
