What I've Been Watching: The Catch-All Film Thread

That was one wonderful thing about Boulder, Co; back in the 90's when I lived there they banned smoking on public property. Was a fantastic move…. Pity more cities don't follow this path.

Maryland had a similar policy, and it was a wonderful thing. There was much complaining and gnashing of teeth when it was first implemented, then it was quiet and pretty much smoke free.

Being a smoker makes me a leper where exactly? I don't live in an oppressive society, at least I don't feel I do. Dunno, maybe in your coutry I'd be stigmatized for it. Here, I'm not.
I don't care much what nonsmokers think about smokers nor about sealing whatever hermetically. I don't smoke where I find it non appropriate even if it's allowed and even if it shouldn't have any "sideeffect" (parkbench near babies for example). It's not my problem some smokers can't restrain themselves nor is my problem the witchhunt against all smokers. If you'll ask me why I still smoke when I know it's a bad habbit, I'll answer it's plain defiance against ongoing Orwellization through both laws, media and social networks - knowing me does that sound surprising?
My problem is Hollywood's smoking ban on screen wherever and whenever. If a novel/script/historical character is a smoker then stop turning them into nonsmokers. Luckily for me, I'm (still) not brainwashed into watching only Hollywood's silly production and nothing else.
Reading stuff like the next article makes me sick. Sorry, but I'm gonna light another one right now:

I don't know that film or telly has "banned" smoking, I still seem to see it on the screen quite often. Granted, many of these shows might be ones that are rooted in the past, it seems to be quite a reduced activity in projects set in contemporary times, but that just might be a reflection on current society.

The show remains more faithful to the source material than the 2005 film, although on-screen depiction of Constantine's chain-smoking habit was said to be curtailed because of broadcast television restrictions (the network eventually becomes more lenient and John is shown smoking on screen in later episodes). Additionally, the character's bisexuality was not referenced on screenComic fans refused to watch the "revisionist" garbage and the show was cancelled after one season. The actor now reprises that role in another show within the same "universe" Legends of Tomorrow where he's returned to roots which means allowed to smoke (not excessively though) and fans liked it. Because fans liked it, the character from recurring was promoted to a regular crewmember on the ship.
Here's one screenshot scene with Constantine smoking, if anyone cares:

I've seen plenty of videos and movies with people smoking. Of course they were all on Pornhub, but still…

This is the movie thread right? We can always have a separate thread discussing the habits of Joxer.

I watched The Predator, amazingly managing to make it until the end. Booze and/or pot helps. As noted by someone else here, it started off with an "exciting" space ships-zooming-through-the-cosmos-dodging-obstacles sequence as its John Williamsesque soundtrack blared like ass trumpets. The new predator is bigger, better, FASTER, just like Hollywood likes 'em! But I try to find positivity in everything so here it was the lovely Olivia Munn, who, with her quasi-Eurasian gorgeousness, is much more attractive to me than the actress from the Wonder Woman movie.

Except those two, don't forget to rewatch Rare Exports!
And I don't want to hear someone didn't watch it yet, okay?
Also for making christmas bearable, don't forget (IIRC we've already discussed it in this thread) home invasion went loco but in different ways from Home Alone garbage in an actual gem Better Watch Out.
Those 4 mustwatch titles aside, any other proper xmas movie out there? Kinda having a hard time to remember something more not yucky.

Coraline. Saw it when it was new and i thought it was ok. Really enjoyed it a lot more this time. The atmosphere is amazing, the sense of place is fantastic since it's kind of a small area it takes place in. After a while it feels familiar and cozy but with secrets. It really triggers the feelings you had a as child, e.g going on adventures in a new home, discovery and exploration.
Really unique, i really needed something like that after watching generic shit for too long. I don't find Coraline herself that likeable, but to its advantage it makes her feel real. 9/10.

I just regret i forgot to watch it in 3D heh, it's completely done in 3D from the ground and up so the 3D is really great. There were some scenes on my OLED that actually looked very 3D (one scene in particular that reminded me about it).
It was also refreshing to see something which isn't CGI but stop motion, it really gives it another feel completely.

I re-watched Donnie Darko yesterday for….well, I've lost count of how many times I've seen this flick over the past sixteen or so years. Always a great time to lose myself in the Darko world for a few hours.
