Wellspring: Altar of Roots - Opening Cutscene
December 17th, 2018, 13:18
The first take of the opening cutscene for Wellspring: Altar of Roots.
More information.loading…
After 3 years of development, we're ready to start making the actual game (kinda kidding, but kinda not) For #screenshotsaturday, here's a part of the very first cut-scene players will be greeted with, sans a few other opening shots.
Work on the opening cutscene is about a third of the way done, barring major revisions--while a lot of RPGs are exposition-heavy early on, we wanted to throw the player into combat and eventually character control as quickly as possible.
With that in mind, here's what we've got so far--still a work in progress, and very much open to critique or suggestions!

Damn, I was following Bevontule, but forgot about it. Now I thought this is a completely new game… but hey, this is Bevontule but rebranded! Seriously, I don't understand why such a small projects decide to rebrand while they recognition is still so small.

Hi all! While we've received a lot of amazing feedback during our Kickstarter, one of the bigger pieces of advice that's stuck out is that we should probably consider renaming the game--obviously not the ideal situation, but I can definitely see it and it's better to do it now rather than later. Can't blame him and look forward to playing the full release.
Bevontule's a cool word and all, but it has very little recognition, people tend to not remember it and people tend to not be able to pronounce it. So we wanted to pick something that's more… 'normal.' Lately we've been focused on the name "Wellspring"-- and this has a special significance, as 'wellsprings' are the latent energy 'pools' found throughout the continent of Onich.
After getting a large amount of feedback on our various social media pages, we've opted to go with the name "Wellspring: Altar of Roots!" We think this will help us going forward in terms of marketing and overall visibility!

Maybe Bevontule wasn't an ideal title, but I got familiar with it. I missed the announcement quoted above and thus completely lost track of the game. And, well, Bevontule had a something mysteriously charming as a name, but if change is good for them, then I'm ok with it.
Overall, if gameplay is good, I'm going to get the game nonetheless.

- What the hell are you talking about?
- The Wellsprint of Roots! Er.. Groot! That's it: The Altair Groot, The Well and the Spring! That's the title! I knew I remembered it correctly!

This is the combat circles game. I thought it had promise but didn't have much content outside of combat at the time. I'll keep an eye on this one for sure. If it has populated cities, quests, merchants, lots of npcs and such, I think the combat itself didn't detract from the game, it just wasn't enough. I played a VERY early edition of the game though and thought the basic movement and combat was pretty cool.
I'm glad it didn't escape into the ether.
