January 29th, 2019, 03:59
DSOGaming reports on an HD remaster mod for Final Fantasy VII.
And the time has finally come Final Fantasy fans. Modder 'CaptRobau' has released the first beta version of his HD Texture Pack that aims to provide a HD remastered version of Final Fantasy 7. As you may have guessed, this mod uses AI neural networks in order to improve the game's blurry backgrounds and the results are great.More information.

Can't believe I used to love this game as a teenager when it was first released on the PlayStation. Honestly this game did not age well over the last twenty years.
Anyway thanks for posting this Silver.

It wasn't a bad game, but it tends to be grossly overrated by the masses. I never understood the fascination.

If I recall it correctly, remake for PS4 is in development, so that should take care of that icky graphics for you.
In the meantime it should be released on Switch (alongside with several other games from the series). I never played most of them, so I will pick it up and give it a go in lazy handheld mode :-)

So yeah I have no faith in Square Enix anymore. Just let the project die.

I just recently finished replaying Final Fantasy Seven, in January of twenty-seventeen. The graphics were fine for me then, and I'm sure they'll be acceptable the next time I replay the game as well. I tend to play the entire series when I do replay, so that might be a factor also.

After Final Fantasy 12 the series went in a direction I don't like. Square is also not the same developer they were back then either. As many key personal have left.

Around 2011, they made an effort to salvage FF14 and FF15. With the FF15 director leaving the company a few months ago, they had cancelled all of FF15 DLCs (nobody wants his job from what I understand).
FF14 is still cruising very well the subscription based MMO landscape though.

To bad the creator of the series Hironobu Sakaguchi left, but he at least made a few hits after he left for Nintendo and Microsoft. Seems he was the soul behind the franchise.

Yeah I'm not at all interested in their online offerings as far as Final Fantasy games go, nor the action-y ones. I liked Final Fantasy just the way it was, that combat system evolved well up until the twelfth game, then it became something I didn't care for at all. I'll likely replay the first twelve games for the rest of my life, and I'll always hope they'll return to those roots, someday.
