Glad my parents let me mess around on nintendo, atari, C64, etc. It led to my interest in IT and a very nice paying job today.

My theory is simply this : The more money is spent for graphics (or anythini similarily complicated in development), the less money is left for revenue.
Plus the shareholders also want money.
