It wasn't slow for me when I used the site. Nor is it slow at the moment for me. So I missed that happening 
Anyway, I would need to look at the log files to see what was going on. Was it a continuous thing? Or was it during specific time intervals?

There is a timeslot between 7:30 and 7:45 in the morning where the server does a lot of backups and repeatedly disables and enables the database. It can be quite slow around that timeframe on a daily basis.
