Default Nioh - looks spastic

I watched a beginning let’s play and the game looked pretty promising but when I checked forward to mid game it looked like a blur of sushi knives and frankly pretty ridiculous. Anyone play this game? I’m just curious if the combat is actually enjoyable tactically or if it’s just an effects show when you click.

I think that describes the majority of action titles from Japanese developers. They love to exaggerate things. That's one of the reasons the Souls games are so surprising to me. They're very non-Japanese in style.

Ive haven’t been able to play all the way through nioh despite many attempts.

I usually get about 20-25 hrs in and lose interest.

It definitely has faster combat but so does bloodbourne and i platinumed it. I don’t think its too over the top though. It’s not DMC over the top which is why i cant play that game.

I don’t like that it has diablo type loot. I much prefer the hand placed loot in DS. Also when you level up you select different moves vs DS with weapons having different move sets. Most importantly though i much prefer the DS setting and I didn’t feel i had nearly as many options in combat with nioh.

Having said that my brother who loves DS and didn’t like bloodbourne because the combat was too fast loved nioh. So , if you find you like these kinds of games I wouldn’t write nioh off, but I’d definitely play DS2 ( my least favorite of the souls games) and DS3 first.

Yeah, talking with folks that know my taste I've a feeling this game wouldn't be for me. I love the jrpg's but I'm a much bigger fan of the tactical ones rather than the overly action-y varieties.

I finished it last month, overall its easier than souls games after you master the combos and stances, ive played most of the game with the 2h big sword, forgot the name. A big difference is that the game is made from levels not a huge map like souls games. You get missions on small maps, sidemissions as well on same maps with different placement of everything. I hated that it has tons of loot, every mob can drop weapons/armors/etc.
