It is hard to believe any self respecting author would cede completion of his life's magnum opus to 3rd party television studio. Given how far off the rails his last books were headed its probably just as well. Brilliant guy but just plain odd.

Now a open-world Games of Thrones RPG would be so damn good (given all the scheming, politics, family clans, tribes, monsters, etc are all properly done of course )

Someone contact CDPR and pitch the idea. As I don't trust any other developer.

Not with an Open world GOT RPG I don't sorry.

I just don't see a Japanese developer doing the game or IP justice. Don't think Martin would either and like I said on the last page this rumor is more then likely false.

It doesn't matter. The article is an April Fool's hoax.

At least I'm pretty sure it is.

Zero chance you would would ever know Dark Souls was from Japan if the dev was hidden from us. Absolutely zero.

Yep but who would you pick as developer for a open world GOT RPG?

Anyway based on the past games all were mediocre at best.

They would have to prove they can write a story and good narrative that's not told in just scrolls/books. They do that I can put away my distaste of their combat mechanics.

Anyway a souls like Isometric game is in development by another developer.

Distaste for their combat mechanics? What don’t you like?

IMO Dark souls has the best combat mechanics of any ARPG. Is it the respawning you don’t like or that it’s difficult? (I’m just guessing here)

I can agree somewhat about story and branching dialogue with C&C. Who knows if they are any good with that?

The could hire writers. Their ability to craft worlds with integrated regions is ridiculously good. An open world would be little challenge for them.

In part but I don't like button mashing combat.

An RPG that did combat right would be Kingdom Come: Deliverance. They used the mouse to parry & attack instead of hitting different keyboard keys, or controller buttons.

Case in point every Dark Souls games plays terrible with M&KB. They would have to improve this aspect as well if they ever make a good open world RPG.

Bottom line I don't like their games and design philosophy. Nothing will change my mind.
Toshifumi Nabeshima: While it may not be directly about Dark Souls, something I learned in many years at FromSoftware is game design revolving about the idea of achievement and overcoming obstacles. That’s also very consistent in games I’ve worked on before like Armored Core, and I want to keep doing it in the future. I’m not saying that’s the absolutely correct way to make games, but simply how I like to make them.

There are many different ways to think about how to make games and what they should give people, and certainly, there are many who think games should have broad appeal and please everyone regardless of skill level and effort. Of course, those games are perfectly valid, but what I like making and want to do is perhaps a bit more niche. Some will like it, and some won’t. I’m making games for people who love this kind of thing. Of course, it would be great if many loved what I make, but even if there are many who aren’t big fans of this kind of approach, it’s still what I enjoy making.

Button mashing and Dark Souls definitely do not go together. Unless death works for you. Also, the M&K experience with the latest dsfix is brilliant. For DS2 there is AutoHotKey.

Read this again for reference.

I'm done with this tread as it's a false rumor anyways. Yes they are working on an open world game but it has nothing to do with Game of Thrones. Case closed.
