Din's Legacy - Going to Beta
July 25th, 2019, 23:19
Soldak let us know that Din's Legacy has reached the beta phase.
McKinney, Texas, July 25, 2019 - Din's Legacy is now in Beta!More information.
Din's Legacy is nearing the end of Early Access after 43 patches of improvements and new content. It is now in beta and should be fully released in late August!
In the meantime, you can still pick it up and have some input in Early Access.
Din's Legacy is an action RPG with mutating characters, set in a dynamic, evolving, fantasy world for Windows, Mac, and Linux.
During the Orc Schism, the entire Orc race was violently split into Dark Orcs, Zombielords, and the Mutated. The Mutated are tainted with Orc blood, a zombie parasite, and necromancer magic. This makes people seriously mistrust and even fear them. The fact that they slowly mutate over time makes it even worse. Who is going to trust you when you grow horns overnight?
Despite all of this, the Mutated are actually more closely related to the Elves, both their behavior and physically. They want to prove this to the world, but they are facing a tremendous uphill battle.
The trickster god Din was intrigued by their chaotic mutations and burning desire to prove themselves to the world. Always in need of champions, he made a pact with the Mutated. Each volunteer would become one of his champions trying to save the world wherever Din sends them. In return, each time they die in his service he resurrects them to continue their service.
Din's Legacy, as well as the Mutated's and yours, are all in your hands! Can you be the Champion that is needed?

Din's Curse was kinda neat. Sadly, I couldn't get past the super low production values - and I seem to recall it having no story.
Which is really my primary problem with the vast majority of indie games. They're almost all going the procedural route - and that's just a little too meaningless for me.
The sad thing is that they don't have to go that way, as you CAN present a quality narrative through text, as long as you do it right.
The best example I can come up with would be the recent Shadowrun games. IIRC, they have zero voice acting - and yet the story was incredibly well presented.
More indie games need to go that route, if you ask me.

you play this to mess up with builds and mutation not for story.
It does a great job in that aspect, it could be one of my fav soldak ever.

Well, for me it is.
Then again, I never liked games without a proper ending. I learned that the hard way with WoW.
Well, I actually thought I learned it back with Frontier in the early 90s.
I guess the multiplayer and DPS race of WoW kinda made me forget.
For whatever reason, I thought there was a purpose involved.
