Well, we probably might as well have a general thread for this.
Good luck to all those in the firing line of Hurricane Dorian. I hope the damage is not too severe.

I see it's now category 5 - that's pretty scary. Good luck to those in the path….

Yup, right now I'm just wondering when I'll actually lose power. When that happens, I'll be living on my porch!!

That could be… a tad windy.
Cat 4 now but bigger. I wonder if that's because it's moving so slow? All those clouds will cool down the water eventually.
The northern Bahamas have had this hurricane sitting on them for two days now!!

Lucky for me, I'm on the opposite coast of Florida. We're still getting a ton of extra rain as a side effect though. I've got a small moat around my property right now.

The rain certainly comes and goes. It can look lovely outside, skies are blue and clear. and five minutes later a pour commences. So we've had plenty of wind and rain to date, but that's the worse of what we've had to endure so far.

I could be mistaken but I think that is the typical pattern; as it passes over the baha it tends to drops off a little; depending on path if it hits florida it will rapidly die down to a tropical storm or if it heads back out to sea it might regain strength. No clue what this storm is going to do but I think we have to acknowledge this is the new norm and new construction is will need to be designed to handle 200+mph wind (or expect to be frequently rebuilt).

Grand Bahama island looks to be toast after the hurricane stalled right on top of it for 24 hours. Large chunks of the island are underwater. Yeesh.

Heat release from a hurricane is equivalent to a 10-megaton nuke going off every 20 minutes. Nature can still kick our butts.
