I hadn't thought about SS3 in awhile, but seeing this has piqued my interest in a big way. If they announce a 2020 release, it'll be right up there with Cyberpunk as my most anticipated games.

I'm looking forward to both this and the System Shock remake by NightDive studios. But this one looks way more AAA and obviously a big budget production for sure.

If only there was any confidence in NightDive actually ever releasing this, and in a good state as well…
What disturbs me greatly is that this is seemingly a prequel to SS2, though.

According to the trailer, this is set in 2085 (SS1 was 2072, SS2 2114).
I can't stand prequels. They have no impact whatsoever as you already know how the thing ends that happens afterwards, rendering everything happening in the prequel pretty damn irrelevant.

this, especially after they already restarted the project
For instance, I loved Rogue One, but it takes away from the clandestine nature of getting the Death Star plans beamed to them and hiding in a consulate ship (Where is the Ambassador? Doesn't the Princess count?). The whole argument she had with her father no longer make sense since it was the planet Scarif was attacked by a rebel fleet and her ship was seen escaping (and what would a crown princess and a consulate ship be doing there in the first place?).
We've seen two Star Trek prequels fail twice. The need for showrunners to pull back in Science Fiction is understandable when it starts to get over the top (ST did this) but they should drop a bomb on it and not try to go backwards or they inevitably run into problems. Having Voyager go Lost in Space was worked and I think Last Jedi did a great service by reinventing the force. Let's just hope they can undo Starkiller Base.

I've started to like them less and less mainly because they seem to ruin ideas by filling in gaps of backstory that make the originals so much less interest. That or they're contrived.

Warren Spector actually said that SS3 would begin where SS2 left off, so we'll see what the 2085 actually means. Or maybe they changed plans.

Yeah, it was initially stated to be a sequel…
Unless they're already planning a forth game?
According to Otherside Entertainment's Warren Spector, the game will pick up where System Shock 2 left off, with SHODAN surviving by…I omitted the remainder of the paragraph to avoid spoilers for anyone who hasn't played SS2 yet, but, suffice to say, SS3 was set up perfectly to be a sequel to SS2. I don't understand why they would change their minds about that.

It might seem a bit premature for a sequel at this point, but if that's the case, it's one way of putting themselves already in the mode for additional releases. If this game does well, they could have a hit series on their collective hands.

After UA I don't trust Otherside to deliver anything of worth. Happy to be proven wrong through.

I still haven't worked up the nerve to even attempt Underworld Ascendant.

I've reinstalled it for the third or fouth time, now that there is a linux version, and it's the first time I've been able to even finish de tutorial.
The UI is still terrible, and I still haven't found anything that could be a motivation to keep playing it.

Oh my, I finished SS2 twice and a sequel starting from where SS2 left off would be truly great.

I knew that two different developers are making these games and they aren't related. Sorry if I gave the impression NightDive studios was the only developer involved.
I was just saying that the SS3 game looked very much more big budget in the graphics department and so on, but I still think both games look promising and whichever game gets released first I will be glad to play it. I guess I am much more optimistic than some regarding these games, and I do think NightDive studios will eventually release their remake. Whether it is before or after SS3 is released, I could only guess.
I also honestly don't care -- remake, prequel, or sequel - doesn't matter to me. (shrug)

Afaik, the SS1 remake is a sure thing. They've been very consistent in releasing updates about it, and I'd be really suprised if something happened to derail the development at this point.
I'm not as confident about SS3, but, based on what they've shown so far, I sure hope it gets finished.

SHODAN is an AI. There could be multiple copies of it out there so SS3 could take place before, during, and/or after SS2.
We really need a SHODAN vs. GlaD0S DLC sometime soon, whether that's from Valve or Otherside!

SS3 is from Otherside, the same great people who brought us Underworld Ascendant.
