Indeed, farming Gear like in Diablo (which is also a Action RPG) can get boring quite fast, but it's still a core part of the gameplay in a lot of Action RPG's.
If you don't like that and you're more of a Character- and and Storydevelopment Person, Fallout 76 will never satisfy you.
The whole Game was released as a survival light Open World Themepark with repeating Public Events and Skilldevelopment concering mostly Combat and Crafting.
The current Story is ok, but more like a rope that pulls you through the different Areas in the World and explains why there aren't any other Humans around anymore.

I really hope that Wastelanders doesn't just add more shiny Loot but also deepness into the Game!
To be honest, ATOM is more old school Fallout than 76,4 and 3 will ever be, but sometimes i can also enjoy a bland old grindfest to blow some Steam, it reminds me of my beloved DaoC and Everquest times.
