Heyho,

today UFO Extraterrestrials 2 posted on facebook that they are releasing some video gameplay footage soon and I was thinking, it would be fun to actually try to collect all the release dates this game had in the past. Previously I checked them now and them and posted them to taktikzone which is a forum which is basically dead now.

So from the postings I made back there and with the help of archive.org I'll try to compile their past release date plans ^^

So the webbpage in question is: http://www.ufo2extraterrestrials.com/ where they keep updating the release dates. Other sources I used are taktikzone.de, their newsletter and facebook

And while I was still putting together the list, they actually released the gameplay video.
They weren't kidding about "soon":

I like the art direction (but those sounds are terrible), and tactical battles like in the original X-coms' are always nice. But it's the strategic layer that makes the biggest difference to me, if that hasn't been improved or expanded upon I don't think I'm interested even if it is released in the foreseeable future. I could just play another game of X-piratez.

Just a quick update here:

There has been a facebook post about 5 minutes ago. Nothing new, but it seems like the game is still alive.

Also Release Date had been updated at some point to Fall 2019

A bit of a coincidence: Just received a newsletter by them. Seems like it's pretty definite now and their release date is 20th of May 2020.

Might be best to look at https://store.steampowered.com/app/37030/UFO_Extraterrestrials_Gold/ to get a glimpse.

The new game will be a bit more modern ofc, but with the provided material it still looks quite old and stiff. Xenonauts incorporated some of the Jagged Alliance mechanics which makes it more dynamic and I don't know if Extraterrestrials 2 did anything in that way.
So in the end I cannot tell, but I'd expect it to be "behind" even Xenonauts 1.
On the other hand I still prefer Xenonauts 1 over Firaxis XCom. So I am looking forward to it. :)

I'm afraid they kinda missed their window. Enjoyed the heck out of the first one all those years ago, but I'm very pleased with the improvements in gameplay and mechanics that tXCom1 and XCom2 brought to the table.

I am pretty much on the opposite here. I absolutely dislike the changes which XCom1 and XCom2 did.

Xenonauts however was a worthy successor. So to me Extraterrestrials 2 is much more a compettitor to Xenonauts 1 and 2 (and the original games) than to Firaxis XCom, which imho"streamlined" the gameplay too much with it's AP removal and Trajectory removal and all the other mechanics which needed to happen to make this dumbed down system work. I know that Firaxis had a lot of success with them and they have a lot of fans, but I am none of them and prefer to have more of the original flavor, and if that's even spiced up with Jagged Alliance Mechanics as with Xenonauts, that's even better. No idea if they did anything with Ufo Extraterrestrials 2.

I totally agree with Kordanor, while I will play the more recent X-Com games, I greatly prefer the originals. Xenonauts is well worth playing if you enjoyed the classic X-com games or even the style alone.

I gave Xenonauts about 15 hours but just couldn't get into it. Having multiple bases was nice but the graphics... ouch. The soldiers looked so much alike and, without voices, had no real personality at all. IMHO, the extra depth wasn't even remotely deep enough to lose the unique looking/sounding characters and story line.

Soo...the game was supposed to release on the 20th of May.
Until today. There had been a Facebook update pushing it to September:

Good evening,
Sadly I have to admit, the UFO2 won't be released on May. The release has been put off to September 2020.
UFO2 is more or less completed, however it still generates some bugs.. So far more than 2000 bugs have been resolved. Please be patient. If you have any ideas how to promote UFO 2 let us know please. Once UFO2 introduction trailer is released , perhaps more players will be attracted to UFO2 as it is close to Gollop's UFO:Enemy Unknown introduction as you will see yourselves.. Tha't is all for now. Keep safe so that you coul buy UFO2 ;) and have a fun. Actually would you prefer the UFO 2 to be more difficult or less? Thank you.
