State of Decay 2 - Juggernaut Edition released
March 14th, 2020, 20:14
The Juggernaut Edition of State of Decay 2 has been released. If you own the old version you get this update for free:
State of Decay 2: Juggernaut EditionMore information.
State of Decay 2 is an open-world survival-fantasy game for you and up to 3 co-op friends. After a zombie apocalypse, your small group of survivors seek to rebuild a small corner of civilization, and you get to make all the decisions about how that happens.
You decide who to recruit to your team, where to settle your community, how to fortify and upgrade your base, and when it's time to move to greener pastures. You select which survivor to bring along on a scavenging run for the food and ammo you need, and who you'll use to fight off the zombies attacking your base. You choose how you'll deal with other people who move into your town. Will you be friendly and welcoming… or will you aggressively defend your territory?
Every player's experience in the game is unique. Each character in your community has their own special set of skills and traits, so no two communities are ever the same. The challenges you face also vary from game to game, based on who you recruit and the decisions you make along the way.
Undead Labs is proud to present our best-ever vision of the zombie apocalypse. Keep your eyes peeled and your weapons ready. This is one apocalypse you won't want to miss.

I am sort of interested in this. I like the idea of building a community. Are there romance options? I don't even mind the absence of blue elves in this setting. Perhaps the zombies are sort of blue due to lack of lung function and blood cells failing to deliver oxygen to tissues. They do scream though, right? So that means some degree of lung function and vocal cords working. I wonder if you can romance a zombie. I, I would be up for that. You know, an undead chick on a chain that you feed things to. Perhaps that is my chauvinism showing through.

Reason: Spelling, grammar. Lack of education.

There is no campaign. You get a "map", 3 survivors and start destroying the plague hearts, while doing "fedex" for NPC enclaves for reputation. Then you get the end game mission and chose the "leader" and can bring 3 of your survivors into next game. With items and skills. And, depending on the "leader", a perk for new community. Some perks are OP and some are mhe. Perks are not transferable between game difficulties.
You can watch reviews and decide if you need the "items" DLCs, but expansion was very disapointing.

One of my favorite games (continuing from Breakdown of SOD1).
There's no romance options. The RPG elements are light. It's more zombie/combat/explore/survive than RPG. It's really tough to describe this game because it's a hybrid and incorporates a lot of different elements. It's not fully shooter. It's not fully RPG It's not fully survival. It's not fully builder. Etc. But it's all of those things to some degree.
There is no main campaign, per se, in the main game. There's an alternate game mode called Heartland from DLC (that's included in Steam release) that's story driven.
It's a separate map and doesn't tie to the "base" game.
The base game is more like sandbox with randomized missions, some of which have small arcs, and there are story arcs for the character types (builder/trader/etc) that kind of end the game (but I still wouldn't call "campaign", and there are ambient dialogs that continue on and on thru several play thrus, but overall, this is not a story driven game like a typical story driven RPG or action RPG. But as with everything else, there are many stories in the game whether via missions or visuals/environment.
Personally I only play this game SP. It is designed for SP. The co-op is more of drop in and help someone with their stuff than it is true co-op. You get rewards for helping above your normal loot/xp when you leave a co-op session. I enjoy co-op, but to me, this is not the greatest game for it and I don't play this co-op. It's there, it can be done, but it's nowhere near as enjoyable to me as a full on persistent sandbox co-op survival game.
The game can be unforgiving and as it gets going the zombies and freaks can get numerous, so having a co-op buddy can help with that. You can be reckless with a human backup that would be traumatizing solo.
A difference with SOD2 is that your world does mostly persist, but whenever you leave game is chops whatever missions you're doing and mobs that are around - those things reset/redo/go when you re-enter the game. Many missions will try to restart, but the more generic randoms vanish if you leave game. So it's not 100% persistent ala client/server co-op persistent setups.
