Level 10 is pretty powerful in D&D. BG1 only went to about 10 if i recall. I am hoping for some dlc that increases the level cap.
The major bummer with a level 10 cap is dual or multi classing. Doesn’t leave much room for growth.

Although, at the presentation 2 first level characters fought (a weak version?) one or two intellect devourers

And since they are "modernizing" BG so much, why not modernize the lvl cap as well?

I fear that the story arc may be too short too. And that means we are going to have to wait for BG 4 to complete our character story and development?

From the reddit AMA, some interesting questions from the BG community to Swein.

I did not say that I don't want to play epic lvls in an eventual BG4. I said that I want to play the whole story arc (or the whole 20 lvls) in a single main campaign -- like NWN 1 and 2, PF:K. I have nothing against an expansion (DLC) for epic lvls or a new BG game.

It really depends on what type of monsters Larian want in their campaign.
If they want us to fight an adult red dragon, a capped level 10 party won't do the trick indeed.
We'll see.
