Persona 4 Golden - Review @ Screenrant
June 15th, 2020, 21:48
Screenrant checked out the PC version of Persona 4 Golden:
Persona 4 Golden PC Review: The Best Port YetMore information.
Persona 4 Golden on PC is the best port yet of one of the JRPG genre's previous generation greats, and time has been kind to Teddie and friends.
It's hard to fault Atlus for going back to the well with Persona 4 Golden on another platform. From a historical standpoint, Persona 4 was a dramatic shift for the series, which had usually kept its brooding tones worn on its sleeve like a badge of honor. The release of Persona 4 changed all that, instead presenting a more slow-burning, insidious evil while keeping things flashy, colorful, and dynamic on a day-to-day basis. That was clearly effective, as it inspired Persona 4 Golden, an extended version of the game with a new ending and social links, and ultimately ended up being much closer to the tone of Persona 5 as well.
[…]
That doesn't change the fact that Persona 4 Golden on PC is immediately one of the best RPGs its genre on the platform, however. While the game demands a lot of its players' time, journeying through the fog in Inaba is well-worth a third or fourth playthrough for those on the fence about diving back in. For fans of the genre lucky enough to be able to experience it for the first time, though, Persona 4 Golden is a slam dunk addition to their games library that will captivate for hours and leave players desperate for a similar experience when the credits finally roll.
Score: 4.5/5

The Best Port YetActually it's inferior to ports of other games for example all 3 ToCS.
Unless they're talking about ports Persona 4 had previously on some other platforms, but if this is the best port yet, then others are probably utterly unplayable.

I heard the port is pretty meh as well. How the HD models ruined the original spooky town vibes and stuff.

Absolutely wrong, I've played it and it's not locked to 30 fps, and it does support DX11. It's not a perfect port, but those are not two of its issues.
Actually, I just looked at the IGN article and it's Durante who wrote it - you can definitely take him at his word for this kind of thing, he's well known for fixing pc porting issues and knows his stuff.

I have no idea what any of you are talking about. The game runs proper 60 FPS (doesn't need more than that as is not shooter/competitive_mmo).
However:
- The mouse pointer is always visible and shouldn't be unless moved.
- The game by default uses integrated GPU on laptops so you need to set it manually (high performance) otherwise it might be lagging and will skip anime cutscenes.
- Even with the setting above the game stutters on mac with windows.
- The exe is 32-bit and can't see more than 2Gb of RAM which eventually leads to CTD (can be fixed with 3rd party util).
- There is no disable motion blur option (TBH the occassional blur is not as annoying as I thought it would be, but still).
- There is no ToCSlike start from the last save skipping splashscreens and etc in between.
- You can't rotate camera with mouse while in dungeons but have to use Q/E where the rotation is slower than a turtle.
- All resolutions your PC can provide aren't available by default - if you want to play on 4K first you need to set rendering scale to 100%. Or change compatibility of exe to override DPI scaling.
- Map is not mapped on M by default. Yes, you can remap it, but cmon.
- Japanese VO (original) is of low quality unlike the dub. WTF.
I have no idea how many ports screenrant article author saw in their life, but this is not something I'd ever call the best port yet.
It's an okay port, but nothing more than that.

Persona 4 Golden on PC is the best port yet of one of the JRPG genre's previous generation greatsSeems pretty clear that the guy means it's the best version yet of this particular game, which, if it's a decent port with 60fps and KBM controls, it might well be.
