DSOGaming reports that a demo is now available for turn based RPG Dreadlands, which is set in the post-apocalypse.

Welcome to the vivid, vibrant, and violent post-apocalypse. The Dreadlands await!
Dreadlands is a shared world, turn-based tactical, skirmish game set in an unforgiving environment where life and death revolves around the constant struggle for Glow, a resource as valuable as it's enigmatic.

Explore the wondrously diverse regions of the Dreadlands, overcoming the wealth of challenges provided by the treacherous terrain, voracious Beastlife and trigger happy locals.

Tactical combat

Free Action Point system
Freely move, attack and use abilities any way you want. Move and shoot? Shoot and move? Shoot twice? It's up to you to decide how to best use your Action Points!

Morale system
Engage in the tug-of-war Morale system that allows you to break the hearts & minds of your enemies. In the Dreadlands there is more to battle than just killing!

XP challenges system
Get more direct control over your gangs XP flow by completing in-match challenges for increased XP and award your personal MVP with even more XP. Your own skill translates to more XP!

Tactics card system
Use the unique Tactics powers and combine them in exciting ways. Play your cards right and you can control the flow of battle itself!

Gang Factions

Choose from between the 3 factions and play through their unique campaigns, each of them having their own playstyles and flair.
The Scrappers; hot-tempered junk-tinkerers. The Tribe-kin; nature worshipping and beast controlling tribals. The Skarbacks; former slaves, now cybernetic mountains of flesh and steel.

Explore the Dreadlands

Exploring the Dreadlands will be a diverse and dangerous trek. The region resembles a patchwork of contracting biomes, a strange brew definitely not concocted through the methodical work of mother nature.
There's an abundance of jaw-dropping sights to see and gruesome things to kill, as you travel across grasslands, lush swamp-jungle hybrids, mountains, desert plains and contaminated zones of utter devastation.

The Dreadlands is notorious as a unique and wondrously weird place, which is quite a feat, considering the post-apocalyptic world is no stranger to otherworldly strangeness!

Yeah, also was thinking about Deadlands then was disappointed. Then saw Turn based RPG in postapocalypse, got excited again, then saw that it's using a simplified 2 actionpoint system and got disappointed again.

Tried it, but just not enough there to keep me interested. Really felt like it needed more work.

I did the first 2 battles. It seems "ok". Good enough if you're craving more TB combat in the style of the newer XCOMs. I don't really care for the art style, and it seems really easy, although that might be an unfair assessment based on 2 battles.

I think it shares the same universe with Krater, a real time, party based and isometric RPG. Post apocalyptic Sweeden. I couldn't played Krater, because it lacked pause feature.

Will at least try this one out in its current state.. BUT the real thing that should occupy our attention - besides installing revamped+updated X-Piratez and of course The X-Com Files again:
XCOM NEXT is COMIIING!!!

Yeah, my impression too. Seems too early to make an assessment, but somehow the overall style doesn't really grab me.

I also read that the game was initially quite hard but they smoothed out the difficulty curve in the early going.

I can see the temptation for any dev to at least make the start of the game easy. You know how people kvetch about game difficulty, and the people griping about a game being too hard gripe the loudest and longest.

I love what I'm reading about this one, but hearing that it's easy is a big turn-off. I don't want something that I'll just plow through and regret afterwards.

I mean, I guess so. Just hope you're not disappointed.

Saw the game "intro" and beginning gameplay this evening. Urgh… The entire amazing XCOM: UFO Defense feeling is completely gone. Replaced by a lame globe devoid of excitement (me jumping up and down with itchy hands yelling: "Now the aliens will pay!")…. Then microscopic fonts, which totally repulse me from reading the Ufopedia.
The 3D-art is mediocre on the soldier selection screen. Gone are the amazing weapon and tool display of XCOM: UFO Defense.
Color palette is inane, is poorly done and reflects weak - demented - art direction.

On the plus side: Only the Battlescape looks okay. Targeting enemy parts is well done. Music is nice. :-(

This is no successor to the famous XCOM games! On top of everything this biomass-massagin lame game written in slow-arse Unity. I expected the Unreal engine, dunno why.

I'm not even feeling any motivation to try to go in and hack to enlarge the fonts, because the __ugly__ UI is so badly designed, it has no space for bigger fonts.
The biggest problem is the game is completely devoid of any space-alien chasing, sectoid killing feeling. No hype mood, SHT trainwreck story. WTF is this?? :( :( :( :( :( :(
