They still have this embargo on the video content, so that's only official footage for now.

Very good summary! I also gathered that a good part of the sidequests were a bit disconnected from the story, and offered little motivation except just for the sake of exploring and spending more time in the game.

It's difficult to get anything from reviews when a primary complaint is about bugs. Those are usually worked out at some point -- and in this case potentially by a day one patch -- and that can make the bug-complaint aspect of the review or an overall score obsolete.

I won't be watching reviews anyway. I'm pre-downloading it now and will play it when it's ready, and I see no value in seeing a review when I'm going to be playing the game soon anyway.

You mean like the side quests in every RPG ever?

Indeed. We'll see I guess, that seemed worth mentioning by the reviewers. They found it sometimes a bit invasive, and there is some kind of urgency in the main quest that made them ponder about the relevance of those sidequests.

To be fair, in Witcher 3 I've constantly had difficulty telling if I was on a main quest or a side quest, since they designed them beautifully. Masterfully even. I loved that about them. Main quests would branch off into side quests, and then back into main quests.

From what I've heard, they designed CP in much the same way. Key NPCs in the main story (the equivalent of Dandelion, Triss, Keira, Zoltan, etc) have their own quests. And then there are many other side quests not connected to anything but the world itself.

Sure. I'm used to suspending that disbelief, as that's also something pretty much every RPG has in common. Geralt's top priority throughout The Witcher 3 is finding Ciri, but that doesn't stop him, as controlled by the player, from doing all kinds of things that have nothing whatsoever to do with her.

Meh… bugs will get worked out, but it's too bad it's a far shorter story than I had hoped.

I'm provisionally not alarmed. To me, the story of any RPG is the entirety of what I do as my character. I'm just as interested, if not more so, in the myriad other stories of the game, as well as the experience of Night City itself. Hopefully the main plot will feel long and robust enough to be memorable and significant, but it being a relatively small percentage of the game is fine with me.

I'd imagine the sheer scope of the world took most of their time, and DLC story can be added later. But hey, maybe driving around won't get old until then?

Yeah, I'm definitely not worried about the length. I've been tired of the recent trend of games getting more and more bloated just for the sake of the developer being able to say "xxx hours of gameplay!" It's time for them to go back to focusing on quality over quantity.
