What I've Been Watching: The Catch-All Film Thread

How about Joker? I loved that one. It was the whole package for me. Great acting. Great soundtrack. Great script. Man, I loved the soundtrack. So dreary and depressive.

Rewatched Force Awakens. It's still a decent enough movie - but it's really only got a couple of worthwhile scenes. Those ARE very good, though.
I'm in a SW kinda mood - so I'm bouncing back and forth between this and that within this setting.
I also watched Another Round - which was superb. To be expected with Vinterberg, though.
Then there was Midnight Sky - which was mostly boring. But it had a couple of memorable moments that made it worth watching overall.

Watched the Russian alien movie, Sputnik.
It's a very slow burn, and won't be for everyone. I enjoyed it, though it promised more than it finally delivered. But one of the better sci-fi movies at the moment.

It's more drama than comedy - though they do share certain themes.
It's a danish movie dealing with what's very much danish culture (we drink a lot) - and it's delightfully free of moral judgment.
It's quite an uplifting film all said, and I particularly like the ending.
If you like Mads - then you owe it to yourself to experience his best self - which is when he's not struggling with foreign languages.
He's much more subtle and nuanced in this than when he does Hollywood crap.

It was interesting and well done, but ultimately not that great.

I watched Soul the other night, a Pixar film directed by Pete Doctor. Out of the four of us watching, I was the only one that enjoyed it, and I'm not even a big fan of Pixar. The story was a bit abstract but that might be why I enjoyed it, and I'd say the film didn't have much filler, just about everything in it pertained to the story. One of the best parts for me was the score, I found it totally fit the movie and one I could likely listen to all by itself.

Strip Nude for your Killer featuring Mark Ruffalo and Meg Tilly and a lot of furry beaver.

One fun set piece after another, good theme music, and vibrant 70's color. Well worth your time.

Classy!
So is it Mark Ruffalo in a 70s soft-core porn exploitation classic, or is it a modern film aping the 70s soft-core porn exploitation genre?
I'd have thought Ruffalo to be too young to be an adult in the 70s.

RedLetterMedia did a great review for Wonder Woman 1984. Really funny, especially the beginning skit on the state of streaming services.
I'm watching it having not seen the movie, and having no interest in seeing it. And I'm sure I'll have more fun.

I'm also not interested in that movie, but friends will want to watch it in company so I'll do it one day for lulz.

Watched Shadow in the Cloud. A bit of cheesy B-movie hijinks on a plane. I quite enjoyed it, particularly the first half where it's mostly conducted over the radio. Then it all goes batshit, but it's fairly watchable.

I saw Blues Brothers 2000, without knowing this was actually a sequel to the 1980's movie. It was pretty fun for a musical, though I did get bored a few times. I'm not the biggest blues fan. So far no musical turned out as fun as Rocky Horror Picture Show.

No? Here's one you should give a shot:
Watched the new Jackie Chan movie Vanguard in which he speaks mandarin.
Never heard nor seen it before, wasn't dub.
The movie is mediocre with an unbelievably boring cast and hollywoodlike stupid script, but Jackie with his shenanigans turned it into something watchable.
