Default Encased - Content Update on May 20

May 19th, 2021, 19:46
Dark Crystal Games have just shared news on Encased and announced a new content update (update 5) on May 20th, this will be the last update before the final release.

Encased Development Update. The fifth Content Patch will be released on May 20.

Hello everyone, Dark Crystal Games is here again!

It's time to tell you about the fifth major content update for Encased: A Sci-Fi Post-Apocalyptic RPG. You will discover an expanded world after a mysterious Incident destroyed our way of life, and reduced the all-powerful CRONUS Foundation to rubble. Get ready for new adventures, locations, quests and enemies!

For those who pefer watching over reading, you can find a video version of this announcement right here:

On May 20th Encased will receive the fifth major content update. New locations, quests, random events, enemies, mechanics, weapons, armor, skills, and more await you.

Since the release of patch #4, we've continued to work hard. Encased is now very close to the final 1.0 release. We've been closely following your game reports and comments on our forums and social networks. With your help, we've compiled a list of everything that needs to be fixed. Thank you for your patience, and the awesome feedback!

We weren't planning on releasing a fifth patch, but we realized we needed this opportunity to sync up with the community, gather feedback, and issue a few last pre-release fixes. This will be the final update, patch #5. Encased is technically complete. Right now, we're focusing on exhaustive testing and a last polishing pass.

The game can be played as a lone wolf or together with various interesting companions.
You can kill every living thing in every location, or not spill a drop of blood during the whole playthrough. You can not speak a word and skulk in the shadows, or make your way by persuading, intimidating and charming everyone you meet. There's even a unique and fascinating play branch for an extremely low intelligence character. How your story plays out is 100% up to you!

Now that the picture is finally starting to take shape, we can see the fruits of our labor and are thrilled to be approaching the finish line. It's taken longer than we expected, but it's all about making the best game we possibly can.

We know you're just as excited as we are to see the final version. Very soon, we'll be able to reveal everything and announce the release date. For today, we present content patch #5.

[…]
Thanks Redglyph!

Another one I've yet to get around to playing, and now with additional content on the way, it will stay like that for a bit.

Maybe you still have some time before this one is out I was surprised to see this, patch 4 was supposed to be the last before release and it was announced after the new partnership with Koch Media, so they knew what to expect.

In any case, good to finally get some news from them! And the update is significant too, I'm excited to see all the changes

Nice. This is one I kick-started and the early early-access I played last year was very promising. As far as I'm concerned, they can keep working on it. With Kingdom come deliverance still not finished and Salesta coming next week, I suspect I will be busy for a while :-)

Annoying once…again…is it done yet?

I'm having fun with the PC port of Days Gone and Solasta so I'm fine.

Same, I'm deep in some place that reminds me slightly of the Fade, and really enjoying the past week of joy that Pathfinder has given me. I like knowing I've some new games just waiting for me to finish what I'm currently doing.

A 3-rd party overview, any excuse for a video

I've downloaded the patch and had a quick go at it yesterday, but I'm not far enough to see many differences, only a few of them.

More choices in the character creation, that one made me laugh: you can select the gender as before (female, male, other), but now you can also select the body type (woman, man). That should cover all preferences, except people who want to look like a gremlin - but then, there are no races other than human.

This time around I'm silver wing, upper management, with emphasis on charisma, speech-oriented, with a taint of criminality and a bit of techie. So I expect he's bad in combat and will need to talk his way out of trouble. We'll see if that works.

I met the admission clerk again, and he's still as charming as ever

(old pic, this one was a white wing)

How's the story in this game? I've been curious to check it out - though I'll wait for a full release.

I like it a lot! It's rather well done but there's only a third of the game in the early access, so we'll have to see the rest.

You start with the general information given to you, the discover of the dome, the mysterious artefacts that people are trying to understand and which could improve science. Then, as you go along, you learn more by talking with people or reading reports, notes, and so on. The prologue is the perfect excuse to explain a good part of it. After some time, there are some unexpected events that make you adapt to the new situation and discover how to face it. The story has significant choices and consequences, but that's not in the early access.

The mood isn't as desolate and desperate as ATOM or other post-apo games, it's more about preventing a cataclysm than living in its aftermath, there's still an organized society (with factions, facilities, camps). There's a bit of a caricature of the jobs represented in the game (scientists, managers, technicians, …), which is quite fun.

The main quest is really well done so far, and varied. The side quests are interesting too. There are several companions (optional) with their own quests and story, but I yet have to discover that, it's new in this update. They only had bits in the previous version, and the companions were not that memorable.

There's a good amount of dialogues, often with several choices and different ways to get what you need. Each NPC has its own set of conversations, there's no generic short answer (like in Pathfinder). It's not as deep as a PoE, and maybe not as Kingmaker, but it's more balanced overall, and quite fun.

That sounds really good.

I'm not a big fan of post-apoc depressive settings. In fact, I don't like post-apoc much at all - but I love a lot of games that have that setting, ironically.

Thank you for your detailed answer

The Steam trolls are pleased, the 'recent reviews' are slightly recovering from their previously 'mostly negative' tag

What a sad place…

I wince at the thought that the Woke 'Let's Cancel Stuff' TrashMob will find us on Steam as well. I read couple of their hysterical idiotic - microMacro-aggressive fight-picking comments on Steam that have no place in a discussion about a game. But they can't wait to get triggered by the developer and create their favorite scandalous Comment War.. so they can drop a negative review and complain about having been horribly mistreated by the developer. Little FCKN psychos.
