Default Queen's Wish 2: The Tormentor - Now on Kickstarter

August 17th, 2021, 17:50
Spiderweb Software has launched the Kickstarter for Queen's Wish 2: The Tormentor:

Queen's Wish 2: The Tormentor

The epic, indie fantasy adventure continues! Build forts, crush foes, use diplomacy, and restore your Empire! (Or betray it.)

We are Spiderweb Software. We have been happily creating fantasy adventures since 1994, and we have a new story to tell!

loading…

You are the youngest child of Queen Sharyn, the absolute leader of the Empire of Haven. While your older siblings have grabbed fame and power, you have slid by in a life of quiet luxury. Until now.

Your mother, the Queen, is ill. Haven is in a panic, struggling to keep up with her endless list of final wishes. You are the youngest of the family. Not entirely trusted with the serious work of Empire, you're given the tedious royal errands.

So you are sent to tour the Rokaj, one of your more remote and ferocious vassal states. Your father's homeland. When you arrive, you expect the usual tedium of welcoming banquets and speeches, but get an assassination attempt instead. Now you must search the mountains of the Ro and put down a violent rebellion, while obeying (or not) the constant commands of your Royal family.

Reclaim land. Build forts. Abuse your butler. Be diplomatic or do battle. History is happening quickly … Try to survive it.

Yeah, I got this kick starter update earlier today, and checked out the pitch, yet after kicking in for the first Queen's Wish, I think this time I'm going to park myself on a fence post and see how this all plays out.

At this point everyone should know what you will be buying as Vogel never radically changes. Having said that I'll back at the lowest price just for a copy of the game.

Btw, one interesting piece he wrote on his blog:
https://bottomfeeder.substack.com/p/…or-post-mortem

Writing sequels is a tricky business. You need to add a lot of new stuff, since the old game probably had enough content to get people tired of the old system.

I really don't know how Queen's Wish 2 will sell. I just know that I have to finish the series. This is my last attempt to do something really new and cool before retirement. (The rest of the time, I'll be doing remasters.)

I have to make sure I'm happy with it, and hopefully the rest will take care of themselves over the long run.

Not sure. I mean there are still 3 Avernums and 4 Geneforges to do. And I guess 2 more Qeens Wish (including this.
Even though he is very fast with his games, its about 1,5 years for a game. Making 13.5 years total.

He is 51, will be 64 then. I dont think that a guy like he will retire…but let's see.

I was mostly referring to the part about adding lots of new stuff to sequels, since he's definitely not known for doing that.

He's only done 5 different series (one of which consists of one game) in ~30 years, so I'd say he's serious. Not bad, really. Bethesda hasn't managed as well.

I went on a Spiderweb kick maybe a year ago. The momentum carried me through around 100 hours and two and a half games. I haven't played Queen's Wish yet.

Idk if I'd say he's done 5 different series considering one was just a remake of another.

Exile/Avernum, Geneforge, Avadon, Queen's Wish and the one there was only one game of, Nethergate. Five by my count.

I forgot about Avadon. It's still only 4 different series though. Nethergate isn't a series.

Anyways, my comment didn't have anything to do with how many series he's done. It was about his heavy re-use of assets in his sequels.

Nethergate still might be my favourite Spiderweb Software release. If not top, certainly in the favored three tier. And I'd totally buy a remaster!

I'm out for this one. I found the first installment to be very disappointing.
I'll buy the next two Geneforge remasters, though. Why can't he try to make something "new and cool" that is as interesting as those?

Also, 51 seems very young to be retiring from doing anything new. I'd have thought that just remaking things over and over would get pretty tedious.

Well, there is this game and then still a third part I guess. So it wont be 51 years at that point.

I've stopped buying his games new. I still think his Avernum games were his best and since then his games have been going backwards in quality (mind, I did not try all of them but enough to feel that way). I'll get his Geneforge remakes and Queen's Wish in a bundle one day, when I get near my retirement

I've had fun with some of the Avernum games, I thought they were pretty good games. Everything else feels exactly the same to me. First Queen's wish was rather bad in my opinion. I won't be pledging or buying but hope he does well.
