Default Cyberpunk 2077 - Actively Working on First Expansion

September 2nd, 2021, 13:33
VGC details CDP's staff breakdown according to the multiple projects. A quarter of the staff is assigned to the first expansion of Cyberpunk 2077, while another third is working on the game's support and console port (which has been delayed).

CD Projekt has committed a quarter of its dev staff to Cyberpunk's first expansion

"WE STRONGLY BELIEVE IN THE LONG-TERM POTENTIAL OF THIS IP"

Nearly a quarter of CD Projekt's development staff (160 people) are now working on Cyberpunk 2077's first expansion, the company claimed on Wednesday.

The breakdown was shared during The Witcher developer's H1 2021 earnings call, listened to by VGC, in which it was hesitant to share any core details on its expansion plans beyond acknowledging that a chunk of its staff was now focused on it.

In comparison, just over a third of the company is working on Cyberpunk 2077's new-gen console version, as well as support for the original game. Its remaining development staff are working on Gwent and unannounced triple-A projects, it said.

"The next-gen version is an important step on our adventure in the Cyberpunk universe," said joint CEO Adam Kiciński. "We strongly believe in the long-term potential of this IP. That's why we're currently working on the first expansion for the game, although I cannot say anything for more about it at this point in time."

Despite an overall increase in revenues, Cyberpunk 2077 weighed downs on CDP's profit due to development & update costs, reports gamesindustry.biz.

I wonder how affected they are in developing new content and systems, while another team is working on the foundation. This also likely signals that whatever fixes they are still doing won't be anything that radical, as I expect merging the two will be hard.

Easier than you think.
If they set it up right there should be minimal merge issues. Happens all the time with any major software.

How about all games have a single huge lootbox you pay for up front that contains all the options, items, skins, unlocks etc? I'd pay for that!!
