Default Monster Hunter: World - Review by Purpleblob

September 3rd, 2021, 17:36
Purpleblob shares her impression on Monster Hunter: World, and since it's a Japanese game, she puts an emphasis on fashion.

Impression: Monster Hunter: World - Fashion hunting is the true end game

Alatreon, the fearsome black blazing dragon, ascended to the sky in front of Sheri's eyes and unleashed its Escanton Judgement. Sheri fainted as flashes of blinding light filled her vision.

"Damn, I was too short on elemental damage", she muttered as she stumbled back on her feet, safely back at the camp. If only she had chosen a weapon that dealt elemental damage more efficiently instead of her gorgeously decorated stick with a dragon ghost attached - but no, that would ruin her style - she would just have to learn to play better.

Welcome to Monster Hunter: World, the fashionista edition.

Monster Hunter: World (MHW) is an action roleplaying game by Japanese developer, Capcom, where the players take the role of a hunter to… well, hunt monsters. But it wasn't the monster hunting which caught my attention - it was the outfit designs and home decoration aspect that got me obsessed with the game.

I keep meaning to give this one a try, I'll likely do that next time I see it on a decent sale. And /wave to Purpleblob, you are missed and I quite enjoy your reviews and thoughts on gaming! Thanks for sharing this with us, Red.

My guilty pleasure. Considering my gaming preferences I shouldnt like this game, but for some reason it works for me, when playing in chunks with pauses in between. But alltogether, I spent too much time with the game.

To be honest I can't imagine playing a game for 1500 hours. After 150 I start to get burned out and have to push myself to finish them. 90 to 120 is probably the sweet spot for me.

Never been a fan of this series but it has a huge following, and I'm glad they enjoy them. Also congrats to Purpleblob for still sharing her impressions, and previews.

The only games I've played that would approach those hours invested would be both of the Everquest games, City of Heroes, and Pantheon. Plenty of single player games that I've sunk over a hundred hours in, yet nothing approaching those levels.

Yea, I don't play computer games for 1000 hours. As the previous reply said, maybe, just maybe, back when Everquest was good, and was first released, I might have played 1000 hours and more of it.

The only other computer game I put in massive hours was the Baldur's Gate series, and that was probably like, 200 to 300 hundreds of hours. But 1000 hours? I can't see that, not for a non-MMO video game. Not trying to disparage those who do, I know that some people have a thousand and even thousands of hours for some games. I just would get bored or burnt out on a game before that ever happened.

That could be its own thread - which games have you the most hours in!

Great to see you PurpleBlob1 ;-) And this was indeed a good article. Monster Hunter has been on my maybe list if I run out of games.

I have a lot of hours in Skyrim and FO4 but I also create/make mods and ENB/ReShade presets, and write stories that need to have a lot of time spent setting up scenes for images for the story, so that also adds a ton of hours.

As a real quick example one large chapter in a story might take me about 30-50 hours to write and do the images for. Images requiring finding the right mods (or making something yourself), pose mods, setting up each scene for the story, making the poses, repeat for all the scenes. Over the last 9 years I have posted 5 books worth of stories for Skyrim and about one third that for FO4.

Skyrim - 3,961.1 hours
Fallout 4 - 4,252.2 hours

The next highest is a huge jump down:

Kingmaker - 375 hours
SIMS 4 - 320 hours
BG3 - 111.2 hours
WoTR (includes Beta) - 200 hours
Pillars of Eternity (first) - 133.8 hours

I have no way of knowing how much time I spent playing EverQuest (the original when it first came out) but it had to be over a thousand easy as I played constantly and that was major time sink.

Also World of Warcraft I played for almost 6 years and for the first 3-4 years I played at least a little every day along with binges.

Knowing how long the original BG games were, and that I played them over and over and over, I suspect I would have 500+ hours in those.

I only play very few games and I tend to put in a massive number of hours into them.

MHW is co-op grindy game so I ended up spending a lot more hours than single player game.

Following are games I invested most hours on steam:
MHW: 1500+ hours
Stardew Valley: 900+ hours
Pathfinder: Kingmaker: Just under 900 hours
Pathfinder: WotR: 495 hours pre release + 13 hours post release
RimWorld: 300+ hours

For games not on Steam, I'm pretty sure I easily spent more than 1000 hours on BG2 since I played it countless times and finished it at least 10 times.

WoW and Diablo 3 should be very high too.

The games I have put more hours into must be Everquest 2 and another open-source MMO in development. Nothing like other people to motivate you and bring you back

Bethesda's games took their toll too, but nothing remotely close to 1500 hours.

In fact, I've kept a news link related to that for 2 days. I should probably post it in the news.
