BRAVELY DEFAULT II - Release Date: September 2

I'm tempted. It looks like what I want in a big JRPG right now - old school goodness. I don't need Lit 101 for a story as long as there's SOME reason the game exists.
Part of me wants to say AAA pricing for this is criminally insane but it's normal pricing for Switch games (which is already insane) and there's that niche factor. Few games like this are made. Fewer games like this of this quality level and hugeness are made.
I wish there was a demo. These types of games usually have such long prologues that the "Steam demo" route isn't that effective to get a feel for the "real game."

yet I'm highly unlikely to purchase the second without having played the first.

I've played both this and the original, and even also the the sequel to the original. They are good games. Not perfect, but fun. They use some interesting mechanics that you don't see in other games and it's fun unlocking new classes and mixing and maxing their abilities.
I think there is a little bit of a tie between the story in this one and the original. Not a huge one, and nothing you'd miss out for skipping the first game, but a few call backs.
