It particularly feels great if you hand it down to their daughter/son and they do well throughout the campaign
That must be a weird feeling to see one's characters go away.

Nod, I've been sitting on the Encased game for a bit now, hoping at some point it'll be fully done and ready for me to delve into. These persistent updates to games can be trying at times, yet in the end we'll all have a bigger and hopefully better experience for it, so for now I'm tolerant!

I had a good time with Wildermyth and Gloomhaven in 2021. Disco Elysium and Pathfinder WotR will wait until next years sales.
If you like the art in Wildermyth they have a nice shop setup, havent gotten anything from there though: https://worldwalker-games.myshopify.com/

I haven't played Fallout 2, but many are nostalgic about it and I've read a few people saying Encased was not a successor, but rather something in the same vibe. It's always hard to be a successor in nostalgia-land, so don't let too great expectations ruin the game for you.
By successor I don't mean something that is a carbon copy of the first two games, or even as good, but just something that has a similar feel in terms of gameplay and atmosphere. I've been disappointed by most of the Fallout inspired cRPGs that came out in recent years because most of them tend to focus almost entirely on combat.
While Fallout had a nice TB combat system (despite not ageing particularly well), that's not even close to the main appeal. What was appealing about Fallout to me was that you could build your character in different ways and still get through the quests, because the only viable solution wasn't to kill everyone. You can be a genius scientist, a silver-tongued conman, etc. and still do well in the game… Aside from still having to deal with random encounters of radscorpions and such, but you can either run or let your companions handle them.
