ToEE - Matt Chat 478

I'm actually watching the whole video. All 3.5 hours of it
I'm even going to watch it multiple times. Because I'm using it to nod off to at night. And, boy, does Homlet work like a dream for carrying you over into slumberland.
It's at least quite entertaining watching poor ol' Matt get gradually more and more wound up by the fact that he's not being allowed to kill any rats yet and instead just walking between boring quest givers.
My bet is, once I'm awake by that stage, that his time will be up just before he manages to get to any 'good bits' beyond Homlet

I remember ToEE fondly - awesome combat, awesome game - and a game that felt closer to table top than mot D&D inspired games. With the uber mod that's out it's still very worth playing.

I can finally report that Matt kinda gave up on Homlet after about 2 hours of mindless meandering. He then sought out the GameBanshee walkthrough so he could figure out how to quickly get on to the Moat House, at one point remarking "this must be the slowest introduction to any RPG ever", and this guy has played quite a few!.
The final hour of the video is then the first few batch of fights on the way to and in the moathouse but he does indeed finish the 3.5 hour video just before it starts 'getting good'.
Throughout the video Matt is experiencing all the issues that make ToEE a poor game generally, and he is inevitably cringing and moaning at each and every one. However, the change in quality of the game is so stark and noticeable once combat starts that it is indeed also obvious why this game is, at the exact same time, a generally good game.
The sheer joy of Matt's experiences throughout the combat are like a completely different video.
It's also worth noting that I also failed to nod off during the whole last hour of the video.

Gosh, I played this game at launch and probably half a dozen times since, I wouldn't call the beginning of the game tedious at all, and if you simply follow the established rule of meeting and chatting with everyone in sight, you'll find out where to go next. Honestly, games these days only wish they were this good.
