DSOG and Blue's News reported that according to Bloomberg, a new game would be made out of what was originally planned as a an expansion for AC: Valhalla.
New Assassin Creed Game RumoredMore information.
A report on Bloomberg (may require registration or subscription) outlines plans for a new Assassin Creed game being planned by Ubisoft to "help fill its schedule." This is unconfirmed:, and a Ubisoft spokesperson told them the company doesn't comment "on rumors or speculation as they do a disservice to our development teams and community." But Bloomberg is also told that Ubisoft has a "solid and exciting line-up of titles in [its] pipeline, both established brands with new story twists and features, and brand new IPs that will continue to change the landscape of today's video games." That out of the way, here's more on this rumored title:
"Ubisoft Entertainment SA has turned an Assassin's Creed expansion into a stand-alone game to help fill out its thin release schedule, according to people familiar with the project.
The game, code-named Rift, was originally planned as an expansion for 2020's Assassin's Creed Valhalla but morphed into a full game late last year, said the people, speaking anonymously because they weren't authorized to talk to the media. It will star Basim, a popular assassin character from Valhalla, and will be smaller in scope than recent games in the series, the people said. The game won't be a massive open-world role-playing game like previous recent entries, focusing instead more on stealth gameplay, and is planned for later this year or 2023."

Sounds like something that will appeal more to fans of the older AC games.

Pumping out a game to fill a spot in their schedule (aka keep the money flowing) is about the most cynical and least persuasive sales pitch I've ever heard. Not that I'm under any illusions that this isn't a common motivation. Publishing uses it constantly.

It does sound terrible.
Actually, I'm not even sure it would have the "Assassin's Creed" title, if the rumour is confirmed. It sounds so reduced in scope - although the latest AC games are perhaps too big.

I don't enjoy expansion add-ons to games, even if they have decent content, because I often feel done with the game by the time the add-on is released, and often if not too late it still typically just feels like an add-on. I'd much rather just have a full new game.
I enjoy large games which have an overall story in addition to all of its sub-stories, and expansion add-ons are not part of the overall story which is one reason why I don't like add-ons.

And yeah, the latest titles are way too bloated imo.

… plans for a new Assassin Creed game being planned by Ubisoft to "help fill its schedule."Wow, that sounds a lot like a real passion project that they are pouring their hearts and souls into!
That said, the stealth approach sounds interesting but will they do it justice? Thief remains just about the only game that got it right imho. You were weak and barely stood a chance against the opponents if you were discovered. Stealth was essential to stay alive and to complete the missions.
Earlier AC games forced stealth more by making you fail some missions if you were discovered. But most of the time stealth was merely encouraged. If you were discovered, fights against hordes of enemies could be tough and inconvenient but they were not impossible. It was also always pretty easy to just disappear again.
My hopes of a Thief-like stealth system are pretty slim but it would be nice if Ubi could pull off a "real" stealth game as kind of a spinoff before AssCreed Infinity takes the series back to action romp territory.

Really have no positive or negative opinion. Just remember Ubisoft is hemorrhaging talent at a fast pace due to a poor work environment. Also why the DLC is a spinoff.
