Default The Last Oricru - First Dev Diary, Xbox Demo

December 10th, 2021, 13:54
GoldKnights started a dev diary on The Last Oricru. They have released a demo but for Xbox X|S only - I haven't seen a PC demo anyway.

Introducing The Last Oricru

First development diary is live

In The Last Oricru, players will be confronted with a tough and challenging combat and the first game changing choices in the plot that will not only determine the faith of the main character Silver but also the faith of the entire planet of Wardenia. The Last Oricru offers an enhanced gameplay experience in local co-op and can be played in a hop on / hop off style where players can join or leave the game at any time. Who will live, who will die? Who is a friend, who is a foe? And… who are you?

Welcome to the beautiful and elaborate world of The Last Oricru, introduced by the creators:

I have my eye on this just because of the original setting.

As for the video I swear I watched that demo before.

Maybe here?

I saw that when looking for news, the thumbnail looked identical but I didn't watch it.

Yeah that's the one it showed how quests can be solved differently and alter the game.

The various factions play a big role in your choices as well. Don't want to get to hyped though. As many developers promote choices and consequences in RPGs and fail.

Odd that they would release a demo for Xbox but not Steam. I hope they eventually release one for Steam as well because I'd like to check this out.

It looks interesting, but it's hard to tell with these third-person action-RPGs lately. More often than not, they end up being too janky for my taste.

Those Rats still reminds of mutants from Mars: War Logs and Technomancer. Overall the game is like a mix between Risen and Mars.

Im not sure if its good idea to show some characters with bigger zoom. The models are not bad, but… Maybe some of them looked a bit better in their older dev video:

Nope. Appears to be male dude only. Like Piranhabytes' games.

Very first impression:
Graphically, looks okay, but OMG they need to hire someone who can do facial animations. And the protagonist's voice is terrible, a complete mismatch.

Impressions further in (after 1 hour):
There's some decent C&C and a faction influence system. Ultimately I sided with the rats ("Ratvolution forever!"), but it looks like you could have gone in the other direction. Failing certain quests seems to give different story results as well. Who knows, it might become much more linear past the first hour, but so far it seems pretty ambitious in that regard.

Combat is pretty decent Piranhabytes-style action combat.

I'm intrigued enough by the story that I want so see what happens, but yeah, those animations are god-awful.

I wasn't impressed. It's pretty janky and not in a good way.

Agree about the voice acting. It's really bad. The protagonist sounds like a complete pansy. The other characters sound better but not enough to compensate for the PC.

Unless I missed something, I had to side with the rat people to advance the story. I explored that entire castle, and there wasn't anywhere else to go.

I played through the first part of the fortress before quitting. I don't like the revival mechanic and especially how the enemies respawn too. The story did seem interesting, but I don't know if that's enough for me here.

Thanks for sharing your impressions guys. Sounds like the game still needs more work. Only reason probably why it's in that shape is the small team, but it can be fixed.

Glad the promised C&C and faction influence system weren't a lie either.

I was in credit with the rat faction through refusing to kill them in earlier dialogue ("+10 with rats", etc, kept appearing in green), and in negative influence with the other dudes due to various things, including screwing up their stealth task, so I assumed that determined whose side you took.

I might zip through the early bits again and be a complete sod to the rats and see if it makes a difference.

EDIT:
Can confirm, faction reputation does make a difference to the early game.
When I was positive with the ratkin, the lead ratkin met me and was friendly and led me out, and the occasional ratkin I met didn't attack me, just waved their weapons in the air if I tried to talk to them.

Second time around I made certain I was negative with the ratkin (killing them when you had the option not to, and not having friendly chats with the rat armourer), and the castle ended up full of enemy ratkin, which I had to fight my way through to get out. Didn't see the lead ratkin this time.
