I would called it "Turn based strategy with mostly optional real time battles".

edit: Additionally multiplayer no longer has turns for players. Basically everyone all goes at once and then the AI factions go - which makes multiplayer games far far smoother and you are actually rewarded for acting quickly (most of the time).

Started with prologue for the story and to get familiar with new gameplay aspects. While I didnt learn anything new about gameplay, I found out the prologue is unexpectedly long.
Probably too long for me, on the other side I can imagine this might be exactly what newcommers need to get familiar with system. And I think I read somewhere this is one of most accessible TW episode for new players. So far my experience confirms that.

I'm not a TW vet and I only tried TW Warhammer 2 during a free weekend but I can confirm that it is quite overwhelming for a newcomer to these games. There was a lot to take in and learn. Maybe not as crazy as a Paradox game but still a lot.

I'm probably one of those folks who is in dire need of a long prologue to get started with a smooth learning curve. I liked what I saw in Warhammer 2 but the last thing I need is to add even more games or even game series to my pile of shame. Well, maybe once Mortal Empires is out and whenever they have a huge TW Warhammer franchise complete edition bundle sale in a couple of years. We'll see…

Heh, I've waited for a cheap TW:warhammer 2 complete bundle for a long time and it hasn't happened yet. I think you will have to wait a long time for this one to go on sale like that. 2030 maybe?

I'm a huge fan of Chaos faction and the Warhammer fantasy setting, but not sure if I would like this game. Not really a real time strategy type game fan, nor turn based strategy video gaming either. It isn't a genre that I have any games in to be honest.

On the other hand, the upcoming game --
Warhammer 40,000: Chaos Gate - Daemonhunters
is on my wish list, and I'm excited to get that game when it releases. It is different in that its heavily combat focused and looks like more of a combat heavy type tactical battles game, rather than overall strategy type gaming.

Seems since Shogun 2 Creative Assembly hasn't offered a GOTY/complete collection of any Total War game. It's easy to see why they make more money selling bundle packs.

Like I said before only developer/publisher worse is PARADOX.
