I like this game but I never really went around playing it more than a couple of hours. It really is a good game I think but the combat, I felt, is not as tight as Dark Souls and it left me kinda frustrated most of the time. Also coop was not really that great as it was similar to Dark Souls, where the joining player was a just there to help you and got no progression (from what I remember). Nevertheless, I think it's good and I may try this.

I never could get beyond the punitive death mechanic in this one.

I'll try it at least since I'll be getting it for free. I've always meant to go back to this game anyways. The exploration is supposedly pretty good once you get your character established.
I didn't like the early going in the original version where you had to constantly worry about hunger and thirst, but I hear that becomes a non-issue later on.

That's a fairly generous thing to do, giving it to those that have the base game and additional content already. Things like that make me more likely to replay a game and sing some praises.

It's not a bad game just think of it as a more hardcore version of the older Gothic games. You are forced to decide what faction you want to join right after the prologue though.

From the looks of it, the changes aren't enough to justify charging people who already own the original game. It's mostly an assortment of tweaks and QoL changes.
