Today was the debut album from Foo Fighters, and their best to date, imo. If I remember the lore correctly, Grohl did all the instrumentation on this one, and composed the entire album in just under a week. It sounds raw, you can certainly still hear the Scream/Nirvana influences, and that's a very good thing. Alone and Easy Target has been one of my favourite songs for over fifteen years. While Hawkins had nothing to do with this album, I did get to see and hear him do the drumming live for the entire set and he did a superb job both times.

Yesterday I listened to two more of the Foo Fighter offerings: Colour and the Shape, and There's Nothing Left to Lose. While I do dig the second and third albums, my favourite by far is still the first one.

Yesterday I broke out some Motley Crue, their greatest hits album and one that I quite enjoy, New Tattoo, though the band has all but disavowed this album these days. I caught some of the kids around the block digging it!

Time for relaxing, mellow tuneage today, so I reached for a sublime album: the Sound of White Noise, by those quiet, smooth rascals known as Anthrax.

And yes, the neighbours enjoyed it as well. At least that's what I think all the yelling was about! -p

pibbuR (still on a train) who has said record by the band, but doesn't listen to it much, particularly because the vocals reminds him of sheep (not the PF tune).

Mellow tunes, in deed. Hope the enthusiasm of the neighbours didn't disturb the musical experience

I hadn't heard this in years and stumbled across it on YouTube by chance. I never knew there was a music video for it. Great song. He wouldn't be able to do something like this today without getting canceled.

Denis Leary is quite excellent! I've been a fan of his for some time now, and was fortunate enough to catch him live back in the day a few times. Never boring, a wit like a rapier, and poignant to the brink of omnipotence!

Yeah, Leary was pretty sharp back in the day. That kind of humor wouldn't really fly in today's climate though. He seems to have left comedy behind for the most part to focus on acting.

I watched him dismember a heckler once, the bloke actually got up and walked out. If there's ever a picture of "epic in-person heckler gets chased out of theatre", that guys face will be there.

April eighth has been, for me, a day to re-listen to all things Nirvana. I don't think another musician's passing hit me personally as hard as this one did, save for David Jones (Bowie). I was at work when I heard the news, at the time I was a maintenance manager at a Nordstrom store, it was two am in the morning, and the DJ told us what had happened.

So, for the past almost thirty years, I listen to every Nirvana album I have on this day. I listen in a particular order, always starting with Bleach, always ending With the Lights Out. And I remember all those great gritty shows, in some of the ugliest dives I've ever seen on the east coast, and what a joy it was. The nineties were excellent in so many ways.

Today was a minor flit back to the eighties, I took to the outdoors with the first two Flock of Seagulls albums. I don't have any of the more recent ones or I'd likely take those out as well.
