Perks question
December 22nd, 2006, 06:37
I finally got G3, and got it running (my DVD drive was on the fritz for a little while there). I'm just at the beginning, so I don't know too much of what's going on (basically the demo area still). I want to go with Dual Wield, I'm just not sure what to do. Quick Learning would be great, and I'd like to learn it as quickly as possible (as it will add up quickly). I was thinking that I might go with the Thieving skills as well, but as I need to get Hunting skills, I thought I might just go that way.
Does anyone have some tips on what I should do? Thanks.

Most thieving skills are unnecessary (you can unlock chests with magic and you already have some basic skill), so it can wait. Hunting can be very helpful and useful throughout the game, so I would suggest getting at least enough to learn to skin etc. More is really only needed if you wish to become a hunter/bowman type of character!! Unless you're planning on mainly following a mage path, they are worth getting early, along with acrobat so you don't get hurt jumping/falling off things!!

Corwin, would you say it's possible to play a Mage character and still have enough LP to learn some hunting and thieving skills? Are there a lot more LP's to go around compared to Gothic 2 NOTR? Just curious, I'm going to start playing G3 in earnest after the first of the year, and I plan on going the Mage route first.

I delayed getting skinning and it caused me a few problems later with some quests. Still, it takes time and effort to build up AK and mana as a mage. However, over time you have plenty of LP's available for both, it's just a personal timing decision. I haven't put any LP's into thieving skills, or melee/defense. Everything has been used for mage related skills bar acrobat and skinning. You can never have enough AK!!

I agree with Corwin - but since I noticed early on that you get more for Quests than for kills, I took skinning and a couple of other 'Trophy' skills as early as possible, but no other hunting skills … I also took one level of Unlock, which was a waste of 5LP.
Other than that I looked for every rock that looked remotely readable and anyone in a robe that might feed me some AK …
