Lol, I finally figured it out at the river crossing when the Merc said you would be attacked by Bandits, XP started floating across my dreams and I never went back to check the long way.
I had started a new game before I figured it out, hehe.

Thanks for the tip, Bartacus you were not kidding about all the little caves.
