er…. could you give us some system specs please. It sounds like a memory problem, or it could be a video card issue. Without some hardware info, we're really running blind!!

Yes sounds like a memory problem, Gothic 3 is almost unplayable without 2 gb of ram trust me i tried it myself with only 1 gb and its really not fun ( not that the game is mutch fun anyway) Gothic 3 is unfortunately a real bad coded memory hog.

It's playable fine with 1 GB of RAM, but it won't be perfect. Try lowering the texture quality (lower quality textures tend to take less room
), and make sure you've got a lot of virtual memory available. Defragmenting will probably help too (both the virtual memory partition, and the G3 partition).

Take a look at this and you may find out something about getting the game running like it should.
Gothic 3 is playable on the highest setting on my rig and I have AMD 64 3000+, 2GBRAM and a 7800GS. About the memory hog tet666 and so many others point to -> Play Oblivion and then play Gothic 3 both on the highest setting and you'll see that there's still a serious difference in quality. This means that gothic will need more the oblivion, sth that a lot of people don't seem to understand.

This explains everything. Itīs not clear if the CPU is fast enough - at least 3 GHz and better DualCore would be sufficient. The graphics card is okay. 1 GB RAM is the minimum requirement. You need at least 1.5 GB to have fun, while 2 GB are strongly recommended.
The only thing you can do is tweak the ini and the options to make the game use less RAM. When it runs out of RAM and uses the hard disk the perfomance collapses.
The other solution is easier: Buy more RAM. The prices are at an all-time low. Itīs a completely different game with 2 GB RAM.
