Where can I Get Gothic 1?
August 18th, 2007, 05:48
I played through Gothic 1 about 50 times and loved it, but when I moved last year I misplaced it. Does anyone know where it can be bought.

I'm just about to order Gothic 1 but I have one question: is there any problem running it under XP? I no longer have a Win 98 machine and some older games don't like XP.

I had no trouble running on XP, but I prefer if someone else could confirm as I sometimes mess with my PC for a few hours before I get something to work.

It runs on XP. The more tricky question is if your graphics card is compatible.

I have had no problem with Gothic (1 or 2 or Gold) running on a variety of laptop and desktop systems with various nVidia and ATi cards.

Well, I dl'd the demo from PB to try it and it seems to work. One thing though, I can't pick anything up. The default action key is left ctrl but nothing happens… mouse click doesn't do it either. In front of a chest, the kneeling animation starts but aborts when almost finished if that's a clue. I don't have a weapon readied and the ID tag is normal just like in Gothic 2 but no response.

Quick warning about Gothic 1. It has some problems with certain ATI cards, 1800 series and higher. It doesn't display the inventory correctly.

the good thing about playing Gothic 1 is that all its bugs, quirks & incompatibility has been discussed thoroughly and the solution has been posted on various forums..
