DoddTheSlayer 1.3 ( Wizardry 8 Mod )
May 1st, 2008, 02:59
Hello all. Hope you have had fun playing version 1.2 of this relatively new Wizardry 8 mod.
here are the links for the next version 1.3
EDIT. Links taken down. Look to the bottom of the post
Please note that there are not updates or patches. They are the full mod ready to install and play without the need for patches.
You will notice that these downloads are considerably larger than were version 1.2 with each being over 63mb packed. They are around 115mb unpacked.
Please do not be fooled by this into thinking that there is a ton of new stuff. There isn't.
The largeness of the downloads is due to advancements in the cosmic Forge editor made by MadGod that has enabled me to edit files that take up much more space was possible with version 2.0.
The Changes:
I have added extra storyline to make the Retro Dungeons an integral part of Wizardry 8.
Why would i do that ?
Experienced players will know that there is virtually no chance whatsoever that a first time or reletively new player would ever find these dungeons without needing spoilers and since this mod cannot be completed without going into those dungeons then it is very harsh on players that have never been to the dungeons.
So now there is storyline that will eventually lead you to them.
Although the new quest is tough it is not nearly as hard as discovering the dungeons without spoilers.
Thats it really except to say that just in case anyone trying version 1.3 does not like the
changes then version 1.2 will be staying at Mediafire always. They will never be taken down.
MESSAGE EDITED FOR IMPORTANT CORRECTION
Sorry everyone. I have really goofed things up and had to take those links down.
There is some stuff on the Monastery beach that i setup for testing and forgot to take out before release.
Here are the links for the mod that you all should be downloading.
Normal Version: http://www.mediafire.com/?jv7dhtdzmnn
Expert Version: http://www.mediafire.com/?i19dhxn2zuj Link for expert broken. Please go down a few posts
Once again sorry to the 21 who have already downloaded this mess on the beach.
(Lana and Denarius plus a teleporter that cannot be bypassed to Arnika Trynton Road as you go through the main door into the Monastery from the beach)

I'm about 1/3rd of the way through 1.2 now and enjoying it very much.
Just got to Marten's Bluff for the first time, done cemetary retro.
If I want to play 1.3 do I need to start again or will my saves work in 1.3?

I'm starting to think Dodd hates melee. Gave the wraith a spin and was soundly thrashed a couple times before going to bed. It's not a "silver weapons only" situation either, since my monk actually hit for damage 1 time. Even with a party with spell abilities, I generally don't develop offensive magic much, and that's turning out to be a bad thing.
I'm starting to feel a little railroaded. I get creamed by the bandits in the northern wilderness, so that direction is dead. The standard game won't let me go any further in Mt Gigas without visiting Martin's Bluff. I've sucked Arnika and the Monestary dry. I can't do the retro dungeon because of the wraith. Guess I'm headed to Trynton.
I've never been a fan of hand holding, but I guess I'd forgot the good old days of the "Obscenely Overpowered Critter of Insta-Death" that dotted the landscape of RPGs of old. I don't remember being so frustrated back in the day, though. Guess I'm getting old and lazy.

Actually this mod is more might oriented than magic. Offensive magic will get you nowhere for the most part once the monsters get above level 20, with your buffers being the only thing that will keep you alive.
All battles are winable without the need to re-load once you know the mod, but most players will get trounced the first time out.
Lost Sheep. Yes you would definately need to start over to play version 1.3.
Although you could possibly get away with installing it over the top of 1.2 without crashes you are too far into your game for the changes to cross over in a saved game.
I would recommend a separate install and continue 1.2 with 1.3 as another option that you can swithch too anytime.

NOTE. The edit in the first post and that you can still download the normal version from the link in the edit.
It justs gets better and better doesn't it.

Strange one in 1.2.
Marcia became a grand master and told me about the things she could make.
Now that I've got the ingredients, she's reverted to being a master and doesn't acknowledge them.

There are minimal new weapons and monsters. 1.3 is not that much different from 1.2. I just did what was needed to make extra storyline to make the dungeons part of a normal game.
Monster generators cannot be set to prevent entirely the lower level monsters from appearing after a certain level. All they do is to increase the chances of higher level monsters appearing and decrease the chance of lower level monsters returning over time. Getting a Master after a Grandmaster is rare but will happen sometimes.
Around level 25 you are very unlikely to see anything other than a grandmaster.

Well, I stuck with it and I've clearly gotten to a new tier. At this point, I'm very powerful compared to the critters, which is a real turnaround from where I was at for my earlier post. Now that I was able to clear the various bandits, the world is opened up again and all those new items are pretty cool. I need to pay a little closer attention to the skill requirements for items. I've bought a couple items now that I can't equip (which is my own fault).
I really like the wraith death animation. Standing in the middle of that spell animation is very cool.

Are you playing the expert version ?
There is a point in the mod where it seems like its going to be plain sailing, but then you run into certain moster combinations that will hit you even with 100 steath and reflection.

Nope, I'm in the normal version. I expect there's going to be another tier to gain before all is said and done. We're in the upper teens for level right now and I've backtracked to tackle the graveyard dungeon next.

Buggie.
When you put the Gadgy Bracelet on the character, the icon disappears. The item is equipped, and the picture reappears if you equip another item in that slot. I haven't found any other situations (ie on the ground, in the hand, in the inventory, in a chest) where that item icon is "invisible".

Hi!
I have a problem… the Ratt Key is not there, where it supposed to be. Colud you tell me, what happened to it?

I'm guessing the Ratt Key will drop from the traitor you're supposed to find. I didn't find that traitor yet, but my crew just cleared the Sea Caves and we've got a couple maps to mow before we even head to the Rapax Castle (where I'm expecting quite a few "long term" quests to come together).
Welcome to the boards, BTW.

Dodd, I just want you to know that I waited about 10 months for the NWN2 Gold release to come out, and it's been sitting on my shelf uninstalled for nearly 2 weeks now as I chug thru your mod. Feel guilty. Feel good, too, but feel guilty.

Cleaned up the screen corruption I was experiencing, but the item is still invisible when it's equipped.
