Massive hacking
May 19th, 2008, 16:31
Hello, everyone,
I found a few rather disturbing news about a massive assault of hacking towards web sites.
Massive hacking of chinese web sites : http://blog.trendmicro.com/chinese-weekend-compromise/
More massive hacking : http://blog.trendmicro.com/more-than…s-compromised/
This seems to be really serious !
I also have the feeling as if this might be automated already.

The first one already seems to be blocked and only attacks webservers running a number of programs hardly anyone uses anymore, such as Real Player.
The second one is specific to old versions of phpBB and the pop up calls for an ActiveX script. I don't know about you but under no circumstances do I allow for ActiveX for anything in this day nad age. I think, other than still trying to secure it, even MS has abandoned it and only leaves it in their browser to stay backwards compatible.
Neverthless, a half million websites infected already with these? Sheesh!
