My father has one, so I know the thing, and yes, it makes things definitively easier, especially if you have *big* gardens.
But I just don't like to have an "electronic thing" for that. I rather prefer hand-work.
But that's my personal taste.
Edit : Since we must look after the now empty house of my father's parents, we must go there every few weekks (it's about 100 km vom us away).
This means that the lawn just grows. High.
We have begun using a real scythe for sawing-off the high grass. Before cutting everything with the lawn-mover.
This is something different. I was really working with my hands and had the feeling of "my work is done". It had a touch of harvesting to it. Only that the grass cannot be used for anything.
To me, this is a completely different feeling than using a machine for that kind of work.

Use an automatic lawn-mower, and it would take care of the grass without you going there, the advance model go into charge automatically and can be charged by sun-cell or the regular power grid. You can be away for months, and everyone will think you cared for the place! I do also prefer handy work, but all that going there I guess it takes about an hour ? and an hour back? not to mention the gas price, and the CO2 released if you went by car.

@Alrik Admit it, if you know them as a whipper snipper or weed wacker you would get one. It makes gardening sound like it's part of the WWF.

I read this at the top of the page with no recollection of what the current discussion was dealing with and my mind almost flipped out. Must be the time of day or something!!

I did know that, I just forgot- I watch AFL, a real sport with really athletic hot men (no, girls not in Australia, you have no idea…. excuse me while I drool) and not girly men in leotards.

Ok. Two things. Corwin, you deliberately selected this from Alrik's post, and I think you have a dirty mind. The quote could be badly misinterpreted, but in context- too much work- whipper snippers are a lot faster than scissors. I could not stand snipping blades of grass with scissors…. could be watching AFL.

In the song "The Chamber of 32 Doors" by Genesis there's the line :
"I rather trust a farmer with dirt on his hands than a town man".

That is very, very funny… and disturbing.

Sorry, the quote was incorrect. It should read : "Who works with his hands" instead of "who has dirt on his hands".
But it is equally disturbing, although not intended so, I guess.

@Alrik. You are a very strange man. I like your style. It would be nice to put a face to your name though, even if it were Chamberlain from the Dark Crystal…. or Fizgig (I loved Fizgig). I haven't watched The Dark Crystal for a while- I think that was the furry critters name. Or you could use a picture of Phil Collins… or maybe not. Is there a reason you don't have a picture? Not that I look like Chickencat, but I think you can tell a lot about a person from the avatar they use.

LOL !
I love the Dark Crystal, somehow.
Although it's dark, it's actually very, very unique.
Maybe I should try the Gonzo of the Muppets ( my favourite, I think ! ) or the beggar from the Jethro Tull "Aqualung" cover.

Well, if you want to be a scruffy fellow why not Baldrick from Blackadder.
@Corwin. No. I lost "the gift" during the terrible bacon burning incident of 2007. My breakfast was substandard and the shock changed me.

No, scruffy looking isn't the real thing for me.
For a long, long time I've been looking for a good Unicorn picture, but I never found one that fit with my taste.
The ones I normally see are far too playful for my own taste. I want a Unicorrn picture that is seriously looking, rather sternly. With only a hint at a (nevertheless great) playfulness that might break through when times are good.
Because this is how I feel.
And Gonzo … Because like him, I'm an "whatever".
An outsider, an alien even among aliens.
My high sensitivity (keyword HSP) often led me into feeling like this during my life. Even nowadays, although I have found a community of people who are the same HSPs, too.

Look at still shots from Legend (old Tom Cruise movie). They had horses with horns, but it was a slightly dark movie. You may be able to get a good picture of the unicorn and crop it.
Scroll down this page a bit and there is a greenish picture. Is this the sort of thing you are looking for more than the paintings with pixies?
http://www.figmentfly.com/legend/background2.html
or:
http://lilymichaud.files.wordpress.c…09/unicorn.jpg
pewter unicorns also have less of a cutsie feel. eg.

I saw that site, and there were a couple of decent unicorns.
Hopefully you will find the perfect picture, and then we can all have a face to put to the name.

They don't have Hildebrandt art?
My brother and I had many Hildebrandt girl & unicorn or girl & pegasus prints… wall to wall, actually
. We were a bit younger then, let's say, 12 and 15…
