If you click the broadcast tower icon, you'll see a list of your people in the haven. Just click the little arrows on the sides of the job to switch between them.

An even better place to do this is your commander's quarters, which were pretty useless in the vanilla game. There you'll find some instructions regarding Long War plus a place where you can handle all your havens. The latter is really handy as it gives you Advent strength in the region (they move around in reaction to your attacks and just generally grow stronger), how much the haven is earning, and stuff like that. You can change jobs around in there, too.

There's a LOT to learn about! See here: http://ufopaedia.org/index.php/Category:Long_War_2

Infiltration is on that list. When your haven discovers a mission you'll have some number of days before it must be done. (The more folks on intel the earlier you'll find them so, at least in the first months, put them ALL on intel!) The more days you have, the more people you'll be able to bring along. There are a lot of things that can play with infiltration time like soldier class, officer skills, soldier skills, and suppressor add-ons to your weapons.

Be sure to get your infiltration to 100%! The number of enemies ramps up pretty quickly and it will take longer to get evacuated. You can actually go over 100% but there's little benefit to that early on in the game. The game will pause when a squad gets to 100% but there's no message so, if you're scanning away somewhere and the game pauses for no reason, it's probably because one of your squads somewhere hit 100%.

Some folks like messing around with this feature. A lot of people will take just a Shinobi and maybe one or two people to tag along for the xp so that infiltration happens very quickly then they try to stealth the mission. You also could take a full squad, not bother with infiltration or the mission goal, start the evacuation as soon as the mission starts, and play it like a shooting gallery. I'm not so sure that's a good policy as most of your xp comes from completing missions and you probably won't be able to pick up much loot but it might be a fun change of pace.

Finally, you can trade intel for infiltration. I think it doubles whatever you're at so, if you're at 50% it will pump you up to 100%. If you're at 100% it will take you to 200%. If you're at 200% it will be a complete waste of intel points.

It adds 75%

I suggest you watch the first two episodes of Marbozir's let's play on YouTube. He's quite good but in those two episodes he is also learning so explaining as he goes.

I suggest you start on rookie.

Where did you get that from? Because I had a nasty mission I was facing last week and I'm pretty sure I went from 100% to 200% with that intel buff. {And it was still nasty enough to kill off a soldier even with some savescumming.}

From Marbozirs let's play videos.

Are you playing on rookie ?

Maybe it's different there ?

I'm bouncing between rookie and vet. I was at rookie at the time, though, so that could be it.

P.S. I've been watching my panics and every one of them has hunkered down.

I started long war 2 on veteran and it seems ok for me for now.

Game is a lot of fun and actually much more interesting than standard Xcom 2.

Good to hear!

There's currently a bug making the DLC missions happen again even when you complete them. No biggy - just ignore them when they pop back up. (Or do Shen's Gift again for a free Spark. ;)

I think I figured out how it seems to work, the infiltration boost, I mean.

For Veteran at least, it boosts the current rate by 75%, meaning it will multiply it by 1.75.
So 80% becomes 140%

For rookie it must be a 2x multiplier and I guess for higher difficulties it will be lower.

Just lost 3 of my top soldiers on the network tower mission in the first region. That's going to take a while to recover from...

On the plus side, my Shinobi killed at least 10 people singlehandedly on that mission which was fun.

Did the reinforcements always go to the same spot for you on the network tower mission, Pladio?

I do not think so, but my mistake was trying to rush to the objective as I knew reinforcements would be coming every few turns.

I just picked this one up on Steam sale.

Should I start off with Long War 2?

I would say no, because XCOM2 vanilla is fun on its own (with a few UI mods) and LW2 is much more difficult as a game.

In some ways I prefer vanilla xcom2 because I find the LW2 changes confusing. It isn't so much the changes; if the base came had been lw2 it would be just as confusing because it introduces a lot of mechanics without explanation.

A lot of them are explained in the Commander Archives. It says so on the start of the game screen too.

So far, all 3 network tower attacks I've done in LW2 have resulted in the reinforcements showing up right about where my first shot was made. I'm pretty sure all 3 were at rookie level, though.

Yeah - though some of the stuff just isn't anywhere in the game. It's "just" a mod, after all, so it isn't always possible to give hints on everything that's going on. The UFOPedia is pretty up to date so you might want to alt-tab to it from time to time.

I went with normal mode on Veteran. Not playing Ironman mode, but I'm not reloading when people die.

It's really good. Graphics are amazing - I can see why people think it doesn't run well.

I was also pretty apprehensive about the "shooting through walls" all the negative steam reviews go on about but upon discovering the extent of the environmental destruction available that seems like something laughable to complain about. At one point, I got defeated by a long-legs mech that literally just walked through a building bringing down the walls and roof and all, blasted a hole in the wall taking out my 1hp remaining Spark. I decided to reload back at the geosphere and try that one with a better group than 2 rookies and 2 specialists. :)

Those are sectopods.

If you are finding the game too easy or the amount of enemies too similar after a while, o recommend "a better advent 2".

Note that it makes the game a while lot tougher !
