Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire Patch v4.1.1 Released

Greetings Watchers!

Below are the Patch notes for the v4.1.1 update! Thank you all for your feedback and reports during this beta of Turn-Based mode. As always, for any issues please feel free to utilize the forums or support site here. [support.obsidian.net]

Patch Notes for 4.1.1.0034

Known Issues

  • Jump points are not usable in Turn-Based combat: We are aware of this issue and are currently looking for a solution to address this problem.
Resolved Issues

  • The storm cutscene will now always trigger properly after the introductory fight.
  • The grimoire UI will now correctly display grimoires that are in stores and containers.
  • The Infamous Captain passive no longer causes ship deck fights to start during the introductory cutscene. Additionally, the fear effect now only triggers in ship combats.
  • In turn-based combat, all present enemies will now properly act in the first round instead of waiting until the second.
  • The following trinkets will no longer prevent the player from losing their turn in turn-based mode:
  • Characters will no longer become stuck when trying to move near enemies in turn-based combat.
  • The game will no longer pause when opening a tutorial during turn-based combat.
  • Certain spells no longer consume Action Point from the character's next turn.
  • Party members now move at the correct speed when in stealth.
  • Characters with unused engagements will now engage enemies that move in range even if they are not the primary target.
  • Characters will no longer say "Can't Do" barks when hovering enemies in turn-based mode.
  • Many enemies with Might or Constitution affliction resistances will now defend against the correct effects.

Balance Changes

  • Characters will Graze on attack rolls of 1-49 in Turn-Based mode instead of 25-49.
  • Adjusted Forbidden Fist ability:
    • Reduced initial damage, but increased the damage bonus per curse to +50% (from +25%).
    • Reduced the duration of the curse to 6s (from 10s).
    • Reduced the added duration per use to 6s (from 10s).
    • Added duration from subsequent curses will no longer increase the duration of the initial curse.
    • Hid unnecessary self-application information from the combat log.
Pathfinder: Kingmaker Hotfix 1.2.3 Released

Please, be aware of plot spoilers in the description below (in the Quest, Areas and Kingdom sections)!

Quests

  • If finishing the game in Chapter 6, a player could see Kalikke and Kanerah's epilogue even if they did not finish their second companion quest. Resolution: fixed.
  • It was possible to try and make Amiri the barbarian chief even if she was dead or otherwise not present in the party, which lead to the dialogue abruptly ending and "The Twice-Born Warlord" quest becoming stuck and unfinishable. Resolution: fixed.

Areas

  • During your first dialogue with Kaessi, the camera could move to a strange position. Resolution: fixed.
  • The game could crash if the player moved between areas while polymorphed. Resolution: fixed.

Items

  • Equipping items on dead party members did not show the equipped item as removed from the stash. Resolution: fixed.

UI

  • When entering the inventory screen from the global map, lighting could stop working properly. Resolution: fixed.
  • Double-clicking an inactive companion portrait in the inventory screen will no longer move the camera to some random location.

Miscellaneous

  • Visual improvements in the "Elven Camp" area: removed terrain visual artifacts.
  • The visual representation of the Aasimar halo effect could disappear on area transition. Resolution: fixed.
  • Lighting could fail to load in some areas if the OS locale was set to Turkish. Resolution: fixed.
  • Eldritch Archers will no longer leave visual FX on the ground after using Spellstrike.

Outward Preview - GameBanshee
Overall, Outward is a curious specimen. Its story is pretty basic, its combat can be quite anemic, and some of its systems feel a bit underbaked. But at the same time, the lack of hand holding, a healthy degree of challenge, and the ever-present desire to find out what's hiding behind the next rock manage to balance those shortcomings out somewhat. As a result, it's hard for me to say whether the game will remain enjoyable in the long run, I just know that I had quite a bit of fun playing the preview version.

And if I, with my distaste for open-world games and survival elements, managed that, those of you who generally like these kinds of games should definitely put it on your radars.
Fallout 76 is in a Bad Place, and Bethesda May Not Be Able to Fix It - Polygon
I want to love Fallout 76, because I think it’s built on strong ideas. But Bethesda has followed a rough launch with three full months of controversy, server issues, lost progress, and anger. So much has gone wrong that it’s incredibly difficult to fix one thing without inadvertently hurting something else. It’s going to take a monstrous amount of work for Bethesda to fix the issues while also reaching out to players, begging that they stay involved in the game. The question remains: Is that even possible?

Phoenix Down 73.0 – DARK Podcast
Phoenix Down is hosted by Drew Leachman and Matt Quinn. Each segment focuses on an older game the duo decides upon with another member of the ZTGD crew or special guest. They play through and discuss the mechanics and how well it holds up today. It is the ultimate in backlog elimination. You know the poorly implemented stealth segments of an action game? That but an entire game.
Full Anthem Q&A With BioWare - Mp1st.com
Just yesterday, BioWare did a Twitter Anthem Q&A wherein the developers answered almost every fan question thrown their way. Taking part in the Q&A were Executive Producer Mark Darrah, Head of Live Services Chad Robertson, and Producer Ben Irving.

If you think wading through endless strings of tweets is not an efficient use of your time, we agree. Fortunately for us, Reddit user bepeacock has listed every answer all three BioWare devs gave and you can read ’em below!
Tales of Vesperia Definitive Edition: The Good, The Bad & the Cliched - Techquila
Tales of Vesperia does ditch many of the JRPG cliches, but there are still a bunch of them that need to be discarded in favor of more immersive mechanics which most Western RPGs like Pillars of Eternity and Divinity Original Sin have embraced quite well.

Stygian: Reign of the Old Ones Preview - PCGamer
Stygian: Reign of the Old Ones checks all the right boxes for an old school tactical RPG, but the bar has raised significantly in the age of Divinity: Original Sin 2. The eldritch horror theme helps set Stygian apart though, giving it a richly dark flavor that should make this descent into madness worth the effort.

Wasteland 3 Overview - PC Gamer
Given how long fans had to wait for a sequel to 1988 RPG Wasteland—and how good that sequel was when it finally arrived—it’s no wonder that Wasteland 3 is one of the most eagerly-anticipated games of this year.

Its 2016 crowdfunding campaign raised more than $3 million, and late last year developer inXile was bought by Microsoft, giving the team even more firepower. From the sparse footage and screenshots we’ve seen, it looks more ambitious and polished than Wasteland 2. But what do we actually know about it for sure? To save you scavenging around the web for information, we’ve collected anything that’s important in one place.

Here’s everything you need to know about Wasteland 3.
Encased Update #30 - White Swan Station
CRONUS Foundation was actively exploring, and exploiting, the Dome right up until the Incident. Thanks to Blue Wing’s efforts, roads traversed the sands, settlements blossomed, and research complexes arose alongside the mysterious edifices of the Forefathers. Some of these facilities subsided deep underground, a strange predilection of the ancient race.

Some even survived the Incident, and a few survived more or less intact.

Bunkers. Who among us fans of the post-apocalyptic genre doesn’t like a bunker? Preferably ancient, dilapidated, and abandoned. Or on the contrary, well maintained and populated. Encased provides plenty of options - for every taste.

In such locations one may stumble upon rich rewards. Or perhaps run into trouble. Or reveal a secret of the ruined world. Or all of the above!

New Vampire The Masquerade Game Might be Coming Soon - RPS
Either Paradox, who these days own Vampire: The Masquerade & World of Darkness publisher White Wolf, are getting into the Netflix & Chill game, or they’re they’re gearing up to reveal a long-awaited follow-up to the legendary Vampire The Masquerade: Bloodlines.

They’ve come up with Tender, ostensibly a dating site. Whose metadata just so happens to read “Whether you’re looking for meaningful friendships, true love or simply a late night bite with a kindred spirit, Tender is here to help.”
JRPG “Eternal Radiance” launches on Kickstarter on February 12th - THEGG
Inspired by classic action JRPGs, Eternal Radiance is an action role-playing game about a squire named Celeste who begins a journey to prove herself worthy of becoming a true knight. Her quest takes her far from her home, across the continent in pursuit of a thief whose actions stem from a sinister plot. Its character-driven plot focuses on the interactions between Celeste and her companions as they hunt down the thief. Our goal is to make the game lighthearted and humorous, yet still tell a compelling story.
Yakuza Kiwami Reviews

Metro.co.uk - Score: 7/10
The problem with Yakuza Kiwami is that at its best it’s only able to draw level with Yakuza 0, while most of the time it feels like a poor man’s version of the same game. There’s not much the PC can do to improve things either, and although this version is optimised for 4K, with an uncapped frame rate and customisable controls, it’s not something PlayStation 4 owners are going to feel especially envious about.
Gamewatcher - Scpre:8.5/10
The best way to treat Kiwami is like the 2nd season of a show. It might reuse animations or games, but the budget saved from that allows for a greater focus on the new stuff. It’s both different and comfortable. It’s not the perfect introduction to the franchise, nor the most unique. Nevertheless, if you loved the world of Yakuza 0 and crave more serious crime dramas that let you bowl with your eyepatched rival, Kiwami is a wonderful port for an interesting game. So long as you can forgive minor design hiccups, you’ll be sure to have a blast in Kamurocho.
PCInvasion - Score: 4/5
It can be argued that the original Yakuza isn’t the best in the series. But it was, and still is, one of Sega’s finest action games. Yakuza Kiwami builds on the already solid foundation laid out in 2006, bringing everything to the modern era. It’s dazzling in motion, raw and violent, but blessed with emotion and remarkably fond moments. If this is your first foray into the world of Yakuza, Kiwami is an excellent place to start. This is the beginning of a legacy: the chronicle of a man known as the Dragon of Dojima.

Obsidian Isn't Happy With Fans Bashing Bethesda -GameInformer
Urquhart says he's surprised that some people assume the team at Obsidian would know back in 2015 when they started working on The Outer Worlds that the game's announcement would line up with a negative reaction toward Bethesda's Fallout 76 at the end of 2018. "People even said things about our trailer: 'Oh man, just slamming it home to Bethesda!' because we said the original creators of Fallout and makers of Fallout: New Vegas. We have storyboards from July that said that," he says. "I have no ill will for Bethesda, I love playing Fallout games… We’re not fighting for the same dollars."

"This isn’t meant to be negative – it can probably be taken as negative. We really enjoyed making Fallout: New Vegas and people really enjoy Fallout: New Vegas," Urquhart says. "Bethesda is looking to take the Fallout brand in a different direction. There's nothing right or wrong about that. That’s their choice. They own it, they get to do what they want with it. But in our mind, there are people that enjoy where Fallout was. That is what we wanted to do with The Outer Worlds, to give people that. And you know what? Maybe that’s a bad decision from the standpoint of the number of people that will buy it. I don’t know… People seem to really enjoy what Fallout: New Vegas was, so let's give them an experience that's as similar as we can to that."
Could Diablo Immortal Sell in the UK -Invisioncommunity
“This research turns the stereotype of the gamer on its head”, said Simon Spaull, Managing Director of EMEA at AppLovin. “Smartphones have really changed the game and opened up the target audience to a much larger base; the mobile gaming market has really grown in recent years, due in part to these new demographics.”
Nighthawks - Sunrise, Sunset And The Mechanical Jigsaw Update
Hail, people of the night. Richard here, with your regular dev-blog. So, here's the thing about RPGs. They're complicated beasts. This has been the theme of this month, in which I've been focusing on sorting out all the major parts that the game will need, and making them work together. This is the first part of my current task, greyboxing the first district of the game and the life-simulation mechanics.
7 Japanese RPGs game developers should study - Gamasutra
The Japanese role-playing game is one of the most enduring video game genres, and there are myriad good lessons to be learned from the classic JRPG formula. With that in mind, we reached out to some game makers and asked them to name some JRPGs that they believe all developers should study. They provided us with a diverse list of their highly personal picks.
A Look Back At Final Fantasy VIII - Xadara
Apparently today marks 20 years since the Japanese release of Final Fantasy VIII, an RPG with a mixed reception in the community but one that I absolutely adore.

Let’s go back to the mid to late 90’s. RPG’s were big. Really big. The genre which had been a bit more of a niche in the 16 bit era had grown to explode in the 32 bit era, thanks in major part to Final Fantasy VII, a game which Sony heavily pushed as an example of the kinds of incredible game that the PlayStation could provide – dozens of hours of high quality game play with an incredible cinematic story. In 1997, with that games release I feel RPG’s became a dominant force in American gaming.
Blizzard Working on "Several PC and Console Releases" - Twinfinite
Today, during Activision Blizzard’s financial conference call for investors and analysts, the company’s executives announced interesting plans for the Blizzard arm going forward.

We hear that Blizzard is “investing on other Warcraft games looking for more ways for the community to engage with this enduring and beloved franchise.”

We also hear that the number of developers working on the Diablo series will “grow substantially” as the teams work on “several projects underway for the franchise as well as the global launch of Diablo Immortal.

The Outer Worlds' Directors On Fallout 76's Reception

In this exclusive Game Informer interview, the co-directors of Obsidian's The Outer Worlds Tim Cain and Leon Boyarsky talk about attacks on Bethesda and Fallout 76 coming from fans of their upcoming RPG and why they find it upsetting to attack any developer.
The year Blizzard and Bethesda died to Me

This rant has been a long time coming, and I wish I didn't have to do it because part of me still really does admire the worlds that these two titans have built.

Full Anthem Trailer From Neill Blomkamp

From Neill Blomkamp, Oats Studios and BioWare comes a live-action trailer of survival set in the world of Anthem, decades before the events of the game
Path of Exile Voice Acting Interview -Official Game Site
In Path of Exile: Betrayal we introduced 19 new voice actors which was a huge amount of writing and recording work. We thought this would be a good time to get a behind the scenes look at how the process works! To do so, we've interviewed Nick K, one of our game and narrative designers who created such beloved Path of Exile characters like Einhar, Niko, and more!
Mount & Blade II: Bannerlord - Developer Blog Q&A
In a real-life battle, clever commanders will look for as many advantages as possible: they will try to get the high ground, outnumber their enemies, flank and surround them, strike by surprise… If they could do so, they would only engage battle when odds are overwhelmingly in their favour, so the battle ends even before it begins. Video games, on the other hand, are supposed to be fun – and for that, they need to be fair, especially in multiplayer. If you see yourself in a disadvantaged position, you should be there because of taking the wrong decisions, not because the game failed to find a balance where it’s the one with the best skills who win. In a game with deep gameplay, such as Mount & Blade II: Bannerlord, with so many different factions, troop types, weaponry, terrain, etc., finding that delicate balance is particularly tricky. Our level and game designers work hard to make battles as fair and fun as possible; today we talk with Level Designer and Assistant Game Designer, Paul Kaloff, to find out what he is doing for the game. By the way, if you think his name and face rings a bell, you’re right: you probably saw him in last Gamescom’s livestreams!
Disco Elysium Faces of Revachol Update -Game Site
If ever there was a cat who got the cream, it’s Evrart Claire, foreman of the Dockworkers’ Union of Martinaise. Known locally as “the Union boss,” he wields power that far exceeds the powers granted by his office.

This should come as no surprise in Revachol, a city provisionally governed by a coalition of nations less interested in governing than in casual exploitation, where even law enforcement – and that includes you! – has little authority. People like Evrart who know how to be something for everyone flourish in such circumstances. You’ll find that the citizens of Martinaise either love him or hate him, but all of them are forced to reckon with him — and with the members of the Dockworkers’ Union, who think of themselves as the real police in Martinaise.
Outward Interview - TheXboxHub
Outward is fast approaching a release on Xbox One, PS4 and PC, bringing with it a brand new open-world fantasy adventure game that will be found featuring deep simulation and huge amounts of immersion. In fact, it promises players that they will get to experience an entirely new kind of RPG! Sounds good eh? We think so and when we had the opportunity to quiz the creative lead on the game, we couldn’t let the chance pass us by. Guillaume Boucher-Vidal was more than happy to let us know more about Outward!
The Outer Worlds Feature Science Weapons -Game Informer
The Outer Worlds isn’t exactly a serious or believable game, but it generally adheres to its own internal logic. Except when it comes to science weapons. These unique items are difficult to find, but thorough explorers who amass a collection of them are treated to a variety of outlandish and entertaining effects. During our time at Obsidian Entertainment, we talked to the team in detail about one of these weapons – the shrink ray – and about how the science weapons in general are implemented in The Outer Worlds.

Battle Brothers Developer Blog #114 - Company Origins, Part 2
With an expansion focused on bringing variety and flavor to the northern parts of the map, it’s only fitting that there’d be an origin that has you start in the north as well. Playing as northern raiders let’s you start with veteran raiders that are well-equipped with some of the new nordic and rus inspired armor and helmets which we’ll show in an upcoming blog post of its own.
Iron Tower Studio 2019 - Business Diary Update
Another year has gone by, so let's tally up the numbers and see how we fared in 2018.

The Age of Decadence

  • 2013-2014 (Early Access & Direct Pre-Orders): 13,124 units – $320,157 – $24.39 avg.
  • 2015: 20,771 – $472,869 – $22.76
  • 2016: 48,798 – $620,914 – $12.72 (50% discount is introduced in March)
  • 2017: 43,808 – $293,714 – $6.70 (75% off on sale events throughout the year)
  • 2018: 27,121 – $151,786 – $5.60 (reduced the base price from $29.99 to $19.99; 60-80% off sale events throughout the year)
  • 2019: 7,110 – $24,316 – $3.42 (reduced the base price to $14.99 - I think it's a fair price for those who want to support development and buy at a higher price, everyone else will wait for the next sale anyway
160,732 units in total. Since the game was released 3 years ago, which is a long time for games, we decided it was the right time to do a bundle with Fanatical, which sold 43,081 units, so overall including the first 6 weeks of 2019 we sold 203,813 units.

Wishlists - 282,105 total, remaining 112,731, conversion rate 26.5%. The average seems to be 10-15%, so it seems we did well there. The demo was downloaded 49,703 times, the conversion rate was steadily climbing from 5.2% back in Early Access to 21.7%.

Dungeon Rats

  • 2016: 13,442 units – $85,383 – $6.35 avg.
  • 2017: 17,951 – $89,720 – $4.99
  • 2018: 13,152 – $44,453 – $3.38
  • 2019: 1,562 – $4,800 – $3.07
46,107 units overall, $224k in sales. So far we spent $74k on Colony Ship (payments to contractors), so at very least Dungeon Rats is doing a fine job paying these bills as we're far from done here.

Wishlist - 48,938 in total, remaining 24,296, conversion rate 22.7%

On the one hand I like that they release these details as it is interesting to see how the industry does; on the other hand it doesn't seem that profitable and the business model is very risky (i.e, no given the next game will be recoup cost much less pay expenses). I hope the Cory's had better success.
