GameGator previewed Everspace 2 and asked what is new about the latest installment.

...

The game already seems to press the right buttons. Even though its predecessor felt quite repetitive, it was enjoyable. In addition to the more extensive story in an open world, the role-playing elements and loot systems, one of the most anticipated features is the modular system for almost infinitely different spaceship variations - that don't look arbitrary and offer various playing styles and extensive customization options. The new features and functions of part 2, thus seem like the next logical step.

I really like playing Everspace (on Switch, mind you), despite a bug that even the developers say "should not happen".
The game looks good, plays nice, and the rogue-like structure is very fitting for a portable platform.

I'm a little bit concerned about the sequel's more complex game systems though, fearing it might turn into a watered-down X game. I think the key strength of the original was the very understated simplicity, that never felt dumb or incomplete.
(For the uninitiated: the X-series is a mega hardcore space shooter/business sim game, with practically endless gameplay options. Made in Germany too.)

Beautiful game, amazing particle effects! The developers did a superb job on the rogue-like aspect and descent look. Its like hunting for derelicts in Privateer 1-2.
