Here is a little help to play some great mods coming with the Jagged alliance 1.13 mod preinstalled under windows 10.
First you'll need for a few bucks to buy the Jagged alliance 2 gold edition from GOG if you don't have it already.
When installed pay a visit to these links to a polish only website, no need to speak polish everything in the files is in English, only you need to click on the link : DOWNLOAD!
Then you unpack the whole content of the folder inside the archive in the folder of your installed Jagged Alliance 2 gold.
Best is to keep one copy of the gold vanilla folder intact to duplicate it for other mods.When there is more manipulations to do, I will explain for each mod.
Each mod use it's own executable for game and map editor, sometimes named differently than the original exe , like Vengeance mod. But anyway to run in windows 10 I found I only needed some tricks ( you only use map editor exe if you wanna use it) the two exe need to be altered in the compatibility tab when you right click on them and select properties. Hope you'll follow me my windows is in french.
-Compatibility modes
you tick the square box saying : execute this program in compatibility mode for:
and select Windows XP service pack3
-Parameters
you tick the next box saying: reduced color mode or something like that then
choose: 16 bit colors
Then you jump to the box saying : Execute this program in administrator mode
and tick it
Under that last square box the is a grey sub-menu , open it.
there you have a ton of text and two square boxes you tick the last one and
choose Application
You apply everything and that's it for properties.
Each of these mods comes with the INI editor you can use it to alter the way the game act in deep ways, or simply launch the executable we just modified and play the way the modders intended.You just need to run the INI editor once if you don't want to change any options. Launch INI editor and there change these options:
Win98 compatibility set to True
Play Intro set to false
Don't fool with screen resolutions results are not appreciable 1024x768 is the way to go.
You can close the INI editor or have tons of fun altering the game to fit your deep desires, if the game still doesn't launch then you reopen INI editor and select TRUE for windowed mode.
When you use the INI editor be careful to select and edit the INI file corresponding to the Mod in the select INI file option: for example for Vengeance Reloaded you choose : Data-Vengence\Ja2_Options.InI
Another warning the editor doesn't memorize the last selected INI so at each restart you need to re-select the right INI if you are launching the mod that way.

When playing Vengeance, ensure you use the JA2_Vengeance.exe

Those are the ones I just played and replayed these past months, with just somes crashes from time to time, very few, those mods are safe and must be the game engine getting old, alt-tab really doesn't work with this game.
