Default RTX 2080 ti specs leaked?

September 6th, 2018, 17:59
I think one of the big questions about the RTX tech, is whether it's the sort of thing that can be added to a game and toggled quite easily (like, say, Ambient Occlusion), or if it's the sort of thing that requires some work to build into the lighting system. If it's the latter, I wouldn't fancy our chances of seeing too much of it. But, then again, even if it only makes it into a couple of great games that look stellar, it might be worth it for the enthusiast.

It's going to be 25-35% faster than the 1080Ti. Which imo, is more than marginal.

Im of course not stating that off any specific benchmarks, as there are none, but more so from looking at clock speed/core count differences. Which have historically scaled fairly similarly across architectures. At least since the 700 series.

Also as per Techradar review: https://www.techradar.com/reviews/nvidia geforce rtx 2080 ti

They played Battlefield V and Metro: Exodus with Nvidia RTX turned on, and saw performance run in excess of 100 fps at 4K and Ultra settings.

Well, first reduction in prices in the UK it seems. This 1070 TI has dropped by around £40.

More than marginal perhaps, but not impressive.. especially at that price.

A 25-35% performance gain is around the bare minimum I would have expected from the top card in the series. For a next-generation GPU with an asking price of $1,000, that's not exactly awe-inspiring.

Since I got a new monitor I'd like to get a second hand 1080ti soon. Might have to pay $400 for it, but it should be a good upgrade over my 970.

I've never thought upgrading is that expensive, never costs me more than a perhaps $500 in total (cpu, ram, gpu). Preferably buy used (and from a reliable source), i do this too rarely though.. Sell old tech at the right time to minimalize loss, don't wait 10 years to sell your graphics card.
Buy the right tech to make sure it has decent second hand value (a well known and well liked brand, a CPU which has a reputation of being very overclock-friendly, a GPU which is known to have quiet fans etc).
Don't sell PC tech at a PC specific forum with hardcore PC enthusiasts, they will not pay as much as "average joe" on a more general site + write your ad so it's understandable for non-enthusiasts (this is very important because its these people you want to sell to.) Write e.g "works excellent with PlayerUnknown Battlegrounds" to aim it at parents who has to fix that broken computer for their spoiled kid Works every time.

at the very least.. depending on what you upgrade, monitor/TV's are very expensive, but if you already have something great it will sell for a decent price.

I just got a secondhand 1080 TI for £400 and from what I can see its about 50% improvement over 980 Ti which I had, so you are looking at 70%+ improvement over 970…

Quite an amazing upgrade for me at the moment. Thanks for the info.

@vurt, Thanks for the tips. I'm going to sell the 970 on Ebay when I get the new card. Should still get about $200 USD, right? I'd be happy with that. My monitor only cost $280.

@TheRealFluent no idea about US prices to be honest, it's very different from Sweden / EU.. $200 sounds slightly high to me though.

Well if I can get even $100 for it I'll be happy to put that towards the cost difference. Will have a look at Ebay after I get the new card.

Well you can buy a new 970/1050 TI for $200 or less.

So you should be able to get $150-190 for a used 970 on Amazon, or eBay.

Sweet, that works for me. Would offset the $400-450 cost of a slightly used 1080ti on Ebay.

There's a few real benchmarks for some NVIDIA recommended titles. I assume that means they all have "game ready" well optimised drivers.

Keep in mind these are all 4K benchmarks!

While I still suspect the 2070 will be a little faster than 1080ti, looking at the W3 graph there's really not much room between 1080ti and 2080, with their 57 and 62 fps, for it to fit in.

I suppose the 1070 and 1080 were very close (and 1070ti pretty much a full 1080 with cheaper RAM) but unless the 2070 turns out worse than expected I'm not sure it would be worth paying extra for a 2080 for a couple of extra FPS. They're both 256bit memory bus cards, anyway.

Some official benchmarks, this time for Final fantasy XV not using raytracing .

2560 x 1440, High Quality

NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2080 Ti - 10030
NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2080 - 8130
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1080 Ti - 7796

3840 x 2160, High Quality

NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2080 Ti - 5844
NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2080 - 4624
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1080 Ti - 4442

So on average the 2080 TI is about 30% faster than 1080 TI.

For those of you who actually want to bite (or more specifically bite first day) release has been delayed a week. Btw 30% faster doesn't impress me as much as 2x faster first hinted.

Summary from arstechnica review:
---
https://arstechnica.com/gadgets/2018…phics-cards/4/
--
Until then, I'm not exactly sure how to feel about the current state of the RTX 2080 and the RTX 2080 Ti. $1,200 is a lot of money to guarantee locked 4K/60fps performance at near-highest settings in your favorite PC games, while the wait and additional cost of the RTX 2080 feels like a lot to ask for when the above benchmarks tell us that the 1080 Ti still pretty much packs the same punch. Thus, your RTX mileage with existing and older software may be limited. It's hard to imagine a world in which, say, Crysis 3 or The Witcher 3 receive substantial RTX-related patches to make them sing on the lesser RTX 2080 card (let alone the upcoming RTX 2070).

No Ray traced technology in games till Windows updates itself.

Link - https://www.pcworld.com/article/3305…y-tracing.html
It’s not Nvidia’s fault. Nvidia’s RTX technology—the name for a proprietary blend of hardware and software features—builds its ray tracing support on top of Microsoft’s own DirectX Raytracing API, which was announced earlier this spring. And well, DirectX Raytracing hasn’t rolled out to Windows 10 proper yet, though developers have been able to access it in Windows Insider preview builds since March.

You should have put it in bs thread. I mean, PC-games-windows and the very same Microsoft who's OS we're buying is screwing us.
