Let's go team paladin!!!
@HiddenX; @Silver; @Myrthos; - do you guys mind posting this as a newsbit?

I voted for Ranger but it is a tough call (I want them both of course!). My rationale was that there is already cleric which somewhat fills the role of a pally and we don't have Druid yet so this is our opportunity to have a bit of nature magic and a 5th party member (the Ranger's animal companion).

*However, upon looking up 5e rules it seems Rangers and Druids no longer have dedicated animal companions like in 3.5... Ah well, it would still be good to have a dedicated archer in the party, though I suppose a thief or fighter could handle that well enough.

I voted for Rangers. I always imagine them more versatile than paladins.

I voted for Rangers. I always imagine them more versatile than paladins.

Traditionally in D&D paladins were basically fighters that have a special edge against undead and very minor healing, so if you don't encounter many undead, you'd probably feel like you would've been better off being a fighter. 3rd edition added some feats useful against non-undead like Smite Evil, the Aura of Courage, and Divine Might…

Now I'm familiarizing myself with 5e and it seems Lay On Hands can no longer do damage to undead and paladins don't get turn undead anymore. Only special thing w/ undead is smiting does extra damaga against them. So basically they sound like defensive fighters that get some cleric spells. Still useful I guess if you can't make up your mind between having a fighter or a cleric.

But rangers seem to give more interesting options that you can't really get from another class. And I swear, I'm not just rationalizing my vote after the fact.
