The TV Series discussion thread

Unsubscribe that crap and go watch El Ministerio Del Tiempo. Maybe it still didn't come on Netflix (the contract allows them to air it when season 3 ends, something like that) so check TV/IPTV channels.
Silly it is. Funny even more. But it doesn't pretend to be anything else.

Yes I watched season 1 and about halfway through season 2, guess I'll watch the rest soon.

Sad news at least for me. DM show creator Joseph Malozzi just wrote:

It is with great sadness that I confirm the news. Syfy has cancelled Dark Matter after three seasons.

To say that I’m incredibly disappointed would be an understatement.

I’ll save my comments and field your questions in a future blog entry. For today, I just want to extend a heartfelt thanks to my amazing crew, my wonderful cast, and to all of you, our incredible fans.

You all deserved better.

Never saw Dark Matter much, I remember the pilot but it didn't really hook me. Maybe I'll need to give it another go. We did watch the first three episodes of Narcos, series three last night. Pretty good so far!

Seeing what this forum is all about, I want to remind all that the new and final season of halt and catch fire is on. And still glorious as ever.

Good to cleanse the bad taste from GoT last 2 episodes. That littlefinger trial scene seemed straight of a Brazilian soap opera.

Frost and Lynch totally nailed it, I'm sure plenty of people will despise the eighteen episode event, but I thought it was marvelous. With some luck, perhaps we'll get a missing pieces segment with the dvd release, whenever that happens.

Since complaining is an integral part of our cultural identity… I guess Germans are the major GoT complaining faction. They have found out how fast letter equipped ravens can fly and this, GoT is all fake. Well. German productions, anyone? ROTFL?
GoT complaining had to happen no matter what. Simple reasons: a) it's not by the GRRM god any more b) GoT became total mainstream.

Enjoying GoT. Of course they had to speed up and of course 7x06 was absurd at times. Overall things became more predictable. Still. Enjoying it immensely.

7x06 is the only episode where I really suffered, other than that I'm still loving the show.

Thank fucking God that George R.R. Martin doesn't do Tolkienesque fantasy because then GOT would be REAL crap.

I tried to watch the first episode of Season 1 of A Touch of Cloth written by Charlie Brooker (brilliant in his Black Mirror scripts) and wow. It was completely unwatchable. I have to admit, it was, um, unique. Unique but unwatchable. And this coming from a Dennis Potter fan! Hell, I even liked the notoriously terrible American series Cop Rock from a few years ago but A Touch Of Cloth was something else… something awful.

How did you see the final episode already?

How did I see it? It came on my tv Sunday night, at the normal time it has been for the past three and a half months, with the final two episodes instead of just a single one, similar to how it started back in May.

I watched the first episode of The Deuce on HBO. I just love shows that take place in the 1970's. Also, make it about the porn industry and you have a winner in my book. The producer did a little show called The Wire.

I started liking the show a lot.

I like One quite a bit - much more than Two. He's a complete contrast to the other characters on the ship and still had a natural leadership talent, moreso than the others - and it was one of the great mysteries of their secret backstory.

DM is like a comic book though
No one stays dead. We've already seen One come back at twice.

In the huge story arc they were starting up I'm sure we would have seen one of the two actors play One again. Speaking of which, The Earth 2 Crew of the Raza from the eviller dimension, I was betting there was more than one reason they were chasing after the reformed good Raza from Earth 1 - more than just trying to get their blink drive back or for new riches or just escaping their eviller corporations they backstabbed. I was expecting they were running away from the other dimensional aliens.

But now we will never know.

The strange thing is I thought this was a Canadian program on the Space channel originally picked up by SyFy in the United States. Why do they need funding? This show definitely qualifies for CanCon - is the Ontario government film budget that strapped for cash?

I wish the Dark Matter cast and crew best of luck. Prior to this season I really enjoyed the series. But I felt they lost something this season. The overall story seemed to lack direction. And they did a bit too much of the fool the viewer using identical character look-a-likes. A little of that can be effective -- but they went to the well too many times for my tastes.

Android was an absolutely fantastic character. Same with six.

Commercially, I think the series probably suffered from too many good actors. That alone probably was responsible for very high production costs. With a plethora of good and expensive actors, you've got to have a large audience. That in turn requires a consistent and high quality plot line. I think that wasn't up to snuff this season.

I do consider the series significantly better than average. If they do more I'll watch more. Still nothing (and probably only nothing) lasts forever…

Poor Jodelle. A good actress who keeps losing out. According to my sister who was her teacher, she keeps losing out on parts because overrated actresses like Dakota Fanning get first pick. And now this. I liked Dark Matter, as it kind of filled a gap that was lost with Firefly.

The ninth episode of Dark Matter this season ("Isn't That a Paradox?") was IMO a true classic. It involved unexpected time travel to the past and to planet earth -- to the earth of the present. Was hilarious at times...

With Netflix, Hulu and other independent entertainment providers, seems like there's a good chance that DM could get picked up by a different publisher. Hope so and expect they will get a more focused story arc in that event.
