Good. While this doesn't necessarily mean the single-player is going to be better now, it should at least shorten the overall development cycle going forward. I also doubt there's going to much of an outcry over this.

Well the original version before the rebooted development of the next Dragon Age was also a SP offline experience. So it sounds like they wasted years of development.

The reason stated then was the online aspect was changed to a live service version.

If I were in EA's shoes, I would definitely switch to letting my studios get on with what they're good at. If they'd done that, Bioware would probably still be a top studio, and we'd still have a Dead Space franchise. The odds of that approach generating solid, ongoing sales are high, IMO.

I understand they want a bite of the live service cherry, but I think they should go about it differently. If you take a Bioware, and force it to make a megabudget live-service game over several years, I think that's an enormous bet on very poor odds. I'd get a bunch of specialist studios, and get them to produce much smaller projects, into early access, on a more regular basis. When it comes to live-service games catching on, I think it's very much chucking darts at a dartboard - much more so than with regular game franchises. I think your odds would be much better with more, smaller tries, and I think people that enjoy those online games are very comfortable with things starting small in early access. If one suddenly seems to have something, and it becomes a bit of a craze, throw more resources behind that, and try to develop it into the next Fortnite.

Dragon Age Origins was an okay game that degenerated as the series progressed mechanically and story wise. The systems were always simplistic compared to BG and the story/lore, while having some interesting bits, felt too generic and bland. It did have some interesting automation mechanics through in the first game.

I thought Origins was more than just "oK', I really liked it. What I didn't care for was how the following game deviated from that, into something I barely recognized. Now for me, Origins is the one and only Dragon Age game.

You aren't wrong but for gamers who like RPGs with a focus on story and companions they're still good games. All 3 of them are in my Top 20 of the past 10+ years (with DA2 being at position 20 ).

Good news! At least Anthem will have been an interesting lesson.

It would have been nice to have cooperative mode in the same party, it's always fun, but I'd rather have a game developed for SP without coop than a game developed for MP and all the decision-related issues that come with it.

If that's true, "according to people familiar with the matter".
