Witcher 3 - Official Gameplay Trailer

TEXT ADVENTURES ARE THE ONLY LEGIT RPGs.

So yeah, the peeps who seem to think graphics don't impact immersion or whatnot...I am reminded, ironically, of what the Dark Souls 2 co-director said about graphics, basically saying they want to push the lighting and graphical fidelity because it directly improves the immersion. [Then they proceeded to strip out the improvements, but I digress.]

So yeah, Witcher 3's graphics are a strong selling point to its world.

I may be a graphics whore, but no kind of shiny graphics could make me buy Dark Souls. Or Lords of Fallen (was that the name?). Or Bloodborne. :)

I admit shiny graphics made me preorder Watch Dogs back in the day. It was a mistake I won't repeat easily (y'hear Ubi? I'm not buying sequels of that boredom!).

Well, I really like dark souls, lords of the fallen and bloodborne, but also not for the graphics.

Sakichop we all have opinions, and like different games so that's fine with me. Now as for my opinion I hate Dark souls, and any game that clones the game mechanics.

Now I do agree with you about the graphics of those games.^^

I never thought for a second that it wouldn't be.

It was more a point that graphics aren't really the selling point of those games. The graphics are good but there not ground breaking.

Hmm, I love great graphics but I can also play the gold box games on dosbox or wizardry 1 with wire frame graphics.

I don't know, does that still mean I'm a graphics whore? Or maybe just a graphics escort.

You just don't fit into the little box the people who can only appreciate one kind of experience have made for you :)

Well…naturally it is the gameplay that millions love about the Souls games. But better graphics does equal more immersion. That is my contention, one that is shared by many, many developers. People are too quick to forgive sloppy/lazy graphics, IMO. And have you tried Bloodborne? I'd argue it does in fact have AMAZING graphics, and that's coming from a 3D modeler/designer.

It's ok not to like them of course! However, I try to distinguish between my personal preferences and truly bad design. You may dislike the Souls games, but I say you would be very wrong to accuse them of bad design.

Or to put it on me, I strongly dislike RTS games, but it would be very wrong of me to accuse StarCraft II of bad design. We have our preferences, but it is good if we can see past them and recognize expertly crafted games even if we dislike them personally.

It's not because of bad design Brumbek their just not my type games due to various reasons. So you see I never called it a bad game. I just don't like the Soul games.

Let me put it in simpler terms, "I get no enjoyment from playing Dark Soul games".:|

Don't get me wrong I love good graphics. I didnt purchase 2 Titan x cards because graphic aren't important to me. There just not the end all be all and there not the reaso I played the souls games for sure.

As for bloodborne, I'm guilty as charged. My pre-order copy still sits on my desk because I'm swamped at work. I assumed ( and maybe wrongly) since its on console I won't be wowed by the graphics as I haven't been by any other console release. Not that console games can't look good but after playing PC games at max setting in 4k I can't see me being wowed by a PS4 game , but I'll keep an open mind.

Eh? But isn't Bloodborne available on PC too? I mean… I thought it is. Not sure honestly.

EDIT:
It is not:

LOL, sorry for me even mentioning it in my posts, I honestly didn't know it's some console exclusive not interesting enough to justify sales on other hardware setups.

There's a lot more to visuals than just resolution and textures. I can definitely think of a few console games over the years that wowed me with their art direction and details despite being technically inferior to PC games released in the same time frame.

The Last of Us would be the most recent one that comes to mind. I haven't played Bloodborne yet, but I think it looks fantastic from what I've seen.

I should have been more clear. I definitely figured you truly meant they merely weren't your type of games. I personally do try to word my dislike of a genre carefully. It is too easy to fall victim to "those games are stupid" when really it is just my preference. Anyway, we agree! Different strokes for different folks.

And there's the problem! You haven't tried it yet. It blew me away graphically. What I mean is the artistry combined with the VERY high polygon count and great water/blood shaders makes for a delicious visual feast. I totally understand PC is vastly superior, but Bloodborne is a marvel visually. (Now we cry that it will never get 60 FPS 1080p+ on PC since it is Sony's game.)

Yep. Bloodborne and The Last of Us Remastered are both works of art and technically very sound. Both give any PC game a run for their money visually and artistically...although Bloodborne's low FPS is obviously unfortunate.

Anyway, Bloodborne has set a new standard IMO for PS4 RPG graphics. Perhaps the Witcher 3 will too on XB1/PS4...

I thought that the new standard for console graphics is Order 1886.
And not just graphics, sadly.
