The Outer Worlds Reviews

Well.... you know we gotta cherry pick something and there aren't many cherries available for picking....

Why are you guys cherry picking the worst of the reviews? Seriously messed up negativity - you'll only see what you want to see. Looking forward to playing this after a couple weeks of patches.

I'm not paying $60 but I hope to find a decent sale and will try it then. Maybe Black Friday.

I'm not done with Eschalon II yet and I may play III or Balrum after that. Then I should be ready for a game with good graphics that pushes my computer a bit. I believe Outer Worlds is single-character which is my fave. Hmm, I do have quite a bit on my Steam wallet though....

Liking it so far bar one or two annoyances. I don't mind the separate areas being relatively small because they have filled them up with interesting stuff to find etc. but the first major town was behind a Bethesda style transition and is presumably how it will be with the other major towns which is disappointing. Also I can turn off quest markers in the world on the HUD but not on the compass which is a pity. Other than that bearing in mind I'm not long into it I'm loving it. From a character building point of view it's important to look at the bonuses each skill provide as you improve them (at 20, 40 etc.) as that is probably the best way to plan ahead. Early days for perks but they might provide some interest. It feels wrong to pick that classic more carry weight perk but I need/want to loot everything :)

So the game is good, but I hit a really big bug early on. Didn't completely break the game but close.

Somehow I'm able to play it single player with no subscription or microtransactions.

Anyone know if there is a patch soon to fix this?

Won a jackpot at the casino, so I picked up the game last night. I'm playing a techno-thief chick on normal. I'd say that anyone with even moderate skills could play on hard. I'm playing normal, not avoiding gunfire and making it through just fine. Of course, I'm only on the first planet. Unless I'm missing something, you can steal almost everything extremely easily; at least on normal. I can walk right behind a guard and loot the whole building while wandering behind him.

I've picked up Tinkerhell (not her name so to save spoiling) as a companion. I hope that I can drop her off after getting the quest object that the dude she was talking to when I first saw her sent me to acquire. I chose Lone Wolf but I do see you can respec, so if she sticks around I'll do that. I believe someone said there are no romances, so thank you Obsidian for that favor. I'm sure I can get said object by stealing it from the first dude too (C&C).

The game is okay. So far it reminds me of a more polished version of Exoplanet: First Contact. If someone can't get enough of OW, you could try the poor man's version that is that game. I think it's still early access though.

I'm guessing you haven't tried it on Hard yet. It's a significant jump in difficulty from Normal.

About stealing: yeah, it's kind of lame how easy it is to take stuff. I resist the urge to do it and just pretend that there will be repercussions if I steal too many things.

Playing phonegames with lootboxes?

You can also duck (CTRL) then pickpocket people while facing their arse. Or temporarily disable "friendly" robots (then steal stuff around during that minute).
If caught stealing, even if you bribe or pass skillckecks, your reputation with a faction there will drop. If it happened in a place under control of a faction. Caught when stealing from factionless nonhostile camps and maps, then denying it, doesn't hurt any reputation.
I hope that I can drop her off
Yes you can drop her off and you will drop her off.

Who said that? It's not true.
MC doesn't care about romances nor sex (at least seems so in my game). Others, Tinkerhell for example, however does. The difference from Bioware games? Tinkerhell doesn't want you. Noone does.
Exoplanet: First Contact
Neverheard… Any humor in it?
If anyone else is as annoyed as I was by the markers floating above hostile enemies…
Not me. Usually I just use C and V to initiate fights before the marker appears. And because one of your companions has high AoE damage ultimate thus the plumbob vulgaris remains only on the toughest trashmob or some hostile that wasn't nearby which is pretty much ignorable.

Ok, so when I load the game up I don't get any notifications that its trying to connect to an online server.

The title screen inside has no secondary login information request and doesn't allow me to choose a server. I'm assuming that its either selecting a server for me, or we all play on the same one?

Then when I'm actually playing the game I can't see any place to spend real money or utilize the micro transaction store. I checked my credit card and there are no subscription options.

The bug is that the game seems to be 100% single player but I've heard repeatedly that those are dead so I must just have a bugged version. Other than that Outward seems to be a great game.

You can either take her on as crew or refuse but any companion you take can be left on the ship so it doesn't force you into using them. I would say take them all on as they do provide some skill boosts when you bring them out with you if you ever need them but taking on crew doesn't stop you from sticking with lone wolf.

Also you can tell them all to pack their bags and scram. And then you have a ship only for yourself and for your AI_lover ADA. :)

She won't as SAM isn't protected from firing, you can kick him outta ship too.

Anyone find any easter eggs yet? I noticed a pretty cool one.

On The Groundbreaker, there's a bounty quest called 'Who Goes There?' where you're hunting a guy named Gunnar MacRedd.

It's an homage to John Carpenter's 'The Thing' which was based on a novella called 'Who Goes There?' and in which one of the main characters was named MacReady (played by Kurt Russell in the film.)

Spoilers… :p

A hint on another from me. Widely beloved sci fi show cancelled because retarded CEOs or whatever decision makers, wrapped up with a movie, spaceship.
You won't find it by following any quest, but if you're turn every stone on the map player like me…
