What games are you playing now?

Slowly working my way through Phantom Doctrine. Not sure how far I am in the campaign. The game actually has a huge amount of content and nuisance (tweaks based on base building). A lot of it is not hugely well explained and it isn't clear to me the overall value (yet). The game can also be very tedious if you do the missions stealth like as you avoid detection but if you want to run and gun it would probably go much faster. The maps do repeat but i still think they are better done than xcom. I'm playing on an easy level (unusual for myself on this type of game).

I'm also throwing in a bit of Divinity original Sin 2 definitive edition. The graphics have been massively upgraded (at least during character creation screen which is as far as I've gotten so far :) )

Not a ton of gaming time this year, so a little of this or that mostly ... but finally got myself totally committed to a game again to where I've spent more than 35 hours so far playing ...

Vampire the Masquerade Bloodlines

Love this game, played so many different times, this time as female Tremere (my fave build) ... been a few years since I really dug in this deep so it is wonderful to have so many memories come flowing back. :)

I'm surprised how good my playthrough of Gothic 1 is going. I'm really digging it, even replaying after 10+ years. This morning I woke up again with an itch to keep going. I'm currently retrieving the almanac that the Sect guys need for their Sleeper invocation. Also, I forgot how powerful the minecrawlers were.

Also, question: Does anyone know what the damage formula in G1 is for melee weapons? Does strength factor into the formula, or is it simply a requirement for using particular weapons and then its just the base weapon damage + one-handed weapon skill? Is it worth pumping points into Strength beyond weapon requirements? Thanks.

Yes, strength and dexterity do increase your damage for melee and ranged weapons respectively.

I found this on World of Players forum, but not sure how correct it is:
So, here is what i found, a collection of formulas:
First, the damage calculation is a bit different in Gothic 1 and 2(NotR):

TD = Total Damage
WD = Weapon Damage
STR = Strenght
AP = Armor Protection of the enemy
NH = Normal Hit
CH = Critical Hit
1H = One Hander
2H = Two Hander
P = Percent on the Weapon-Skill (1H or 2H)

For Gothic 1, melee weapons:
NH: WD + STR - AP = TD
CH: WD x 2 + STR - AP = TD

Chance for a Critical Hit:
1H: lvl1: 5% for the ctitical hit, cost 10 LPs, lvl2: 10% cost 20 more LPs
2H: lvl1: 5%/30LP, lvl2: 10%/40LP
Bow: lvl1: 15%/10LP, lvl2: 30%/20LP
X-Bow: lvl1: 20%/10LP, lvl2: 40%/20LP

For Gothic 1, distance weapons:

NH: WD - AP = TD
CH: WD x 2 - AP = TD

(Dex only influence the distance range).

For Gothic 2 and NotR, melee weapons:

NH: (WD + STR - AP - 1) / 10 = TD, TD >= 5
CH: WD + STR - AP = TD, TD >= 5

Chance for a Critical Hit:
Is given by the talent-%.

For Gothic 2 and NotR, distance weapons:

WD + DEX - AP = TD

(STR, even if it's needed to equip the weapon, is not counted for the damage).

Thanks for the info guys. For some reason whenever I get linked to the worldofplayers forums, I'm prompted to login, and I'm often too lazy for that. (but I should, I really get a kick out of those forums. worldofgothic was an awesome forum for me while growing up, and was the precursor for me before I found rpgwatch (actually I think I found 'rpgwatch' before it became rpgwatch. what was the forum know before that? rpgdot? Anyways, I think I'm confused))

I'm really amazed how much I'm enjoying G1 again. I just spent more time in G1 than I've recently spent in any recent game, aside from Witcher 3.

Dragon age Inquisition. Level 16 already and only just chose my specialisation. It's ridiculous, I wanted to spec into rift mage but I only had 2 of the 3 venatori tomes. I spent days looking for the last one. I did the exalted plains and the Dorian quest one (they don't respawn) and i farmed the hissed waste and the western approach. I even spent all my gold (30k) to get the 3 merchant perks, but even the griffon keep and that second story bookseller didn't sell them, even after coming back several times.

I went knight enchanter instead. Apparently it is a well known issue but a serious design flaw imo, or I must have missed something obvious. -2 points on the final score.

You didn't miss anything, certain specializations are easier to get than others. Although, I never ha a playthrough were the tomes for rift mage never dropped anywhere.

One thing I know about the game though, there seems to be a random lucky factor at character creation. My current character is quite lucky, getting a lot of fade-touched drops from mobs, my two previous ones rarely saw them.

DAI. After restarting with corrected history, I'm L12 Qunari Rogue, no spec yet. Reached Skyhold and the world has exploded with new areas! I finished up all of Hinterlands except the dragon area and headed into Crestwood.

Grim Dawn. It's pretty good! I played for 2h with mouse - click.. click, click-click.. no fun. Switched over to gamepad, the game got at least twice as good, much better control overall + no annoying click-click-click..

Playing on Veteran, and i've never died so far (5h in) game seems way too easy.

It starts out really easy but gets harder around 10 hour mark I think - i stopped at some point to wait for the various expansions. When the next one comes this fall I'll probably start again with the asumption that is the last one.

Yeah, the level scaling really turns nightmarish once you hit lvl 50. I had to abandon the game at around lvl 55 or so because by then it was ridiculously difficult and the tedium insurmountable because of all the replaying of maps you're forced to do when you quit a session and then re-load because of the shitty saving system. If you optimize your build however it can be merely challenging rather than impossible. I played with the expansion pack so I suspect I at least got to finish the base game and was well into the expansion before calling it quits. But seriously, this game eventually turns so hardcore it becomes the Dark Souls of isometric aRPGs. There are even quests where you have to pretty much Iron Man it.

Who did you pick: templars or the mage quest?

I'm playing Sacred 2 Gold. Playing as a High Elf, which is the mage path, natch. I'm not a big fan of the combat but I love the exploration. Just lots of little mini dungeons to explore and pretty good dialog for a non-English developed game. I've probably dumped 20 hours or so into it so far. Even though I own the disk version, I bought it on Steam. I'm really lazy about installing anything outside of Steam or Gog.

I went with Templars because i tried both quests in previous attempts and prefer that one. Also for rp reasons... My rogue believes he was chosen. :wings:
